It was organized by World Championship Tennis (WCT). The WCT circuit withdrew from the Grand Prix circuit in 1982 and reestablished its own full calendar season consisting of 20 tournaments. For the 1983 season the WCT circuit was downsized to eight tournaments and ran from January to May. The circuit was again downsized for the 1984 season to five tournaments and the best twelve competitors played at the WCT Finals in Dallas. It was the final year of the WCT as a separate tennis circuit.World of Tennis 1984 1984 Willow Books London 0002181223 165–168 John BarrettWorld of Tennis 1985 1985 Willow Books London 0002181703 189–192 John Barrett Calendar January WeekTournamentChampionsRunners-upSemifinalistsQuarterfinalists3 Jan WCT World Doubles London, United KingdomCarpet (i) – $200,000 – 8D Doubles SWE Anders JärrydSWE Hans Simonsson1–6, 6–3, 3–6, 6–4, 6–3 TCH Pavel SložilTCH Tomáš Šmíd AUS Edmonson / USA Stewart USA Fleming / USA Buehning 30 Jan United Virginia Bank Classic Richmond, United StatesCarpet (i) – $100,000 – 16S/8DUSA John McEnroe6–3, 7–6(9–7) USA Steve DentonUSA Vitas GerulaitisUSA Mark DicksonSWE Stefan EdbergUSA Eric KoritaUSA Greg HolmesUSA Jimmy Arias USA John McEnroeUSA Patrick McEnroe7–6, 6–2 USA Steve DentonRSA 1928 Kevin Curren April WeekTournamentChampionsRunners-upSemifinalistsQuarterfinalists2 Apr Houston WCT Houston, United StatesClay – $250,000 – 16S/8D USA Mark Dickson6–3, 6–2 USA Sammy Giammalva, Jr.USA Bill ScanlonAUS Pat CashUSA Jimmy AriasUSA Steve DentonIND Vijay AmritrajUSA Tim Mayotte AUS Pat CashAUS Paul McNamee7–5, 4–6, 6–3 USA David DowlenNGA Nduka Odizor24 Apr World Championship Tennis Finals Dallas, United StatesWCT FinalsCarpet (i) – $500,000 – 8SSingles USA John McEnroe6–1, 6–2, 6–3 USA Jimmy Connors RSA 1928 Kevin CurrenUSA Jimmy AriasUSA Vitas GerulaitisUSA Johan KriekUSA Eliot TeltscherUSA Tim Mayotte May WeekTournamentChampionsRunners-upSemifinalistsQuarterfinalists6 May WCT Tournament of Champions Forest Hills, New York, United StatesClay – $300,000 – 52S / 32DSingles – Doubles USA John McEnroe6–4, 6–2 TCH Ivan LendlUSA Jimmy ConnorsUSA Jimmy AriasUSA Aaron KricksteinUSA Steve MeisterAUS Brad DrewettUSA Johan Kriek USA David DowlenNGA Nduka Odizor7–6, 7–5 USA Ernie FernandezUSA David Pate See also 1984 Grand Prix circuit References External links ATP 1984 results archive Category:World Championship Tennis circuit seasons World Championship Tennis
