Its orbit is highly stable and was originally thought to be spectroscopically similar to 5261 Eureka, suggesting they may both be primordial Martian asteroids. Spectroscopic observations through 2007 indicate that it has a large proportion of metal and achondrites on its surface (either with or without a mesosiderite contribution); which could also indicate that the surface regolith has undergone space weathering. These observations also reveal differences in the spectra with 5261 Eureka, suggesting they may not be related to each other after all. 1998 VF orbits the Sun once every 687 days (1.88 years) and completes a rotation on its axis every 7.70 hours.Asteroid 101429 (1998 VF31) Space Reference https://www.spacereference.org/asteroid/101429-1998-vf31 2026-08-12 www.spacereference.org See also (121514) 1999 UJ 7 (311999) 2007 NS 2 (385250) 2001 DH 47 (816688) 2011 SC 191 2009 SE 2011 SL 25 2011 SP 189 2011 UB 256 2011 UN 63 2016 CP 31 2018 EC 4 2018 FC 4 2020 VT 1 References JPL Small-Body Database Browser https://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=101429 7 April 2016 Composition of the L5 Mars Trojans: Neighbors, not Siblings Rivkin Andrew S.
