Wilburn Doug Senter Carolina Stadium The 1965 South Carolina Gamecocks football team represented the University of South Carolina as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) during the 1965 NCAA University Division football season. Led by Marvin Bass in his fifth and final season, South Carolina played home games at Carolina Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina. The Gamecocks finished the season with an overall record of 5–5 with a mark of 4–2 in conference play, sharing the ACC title with Duke. In July 1966, the ACC ruled that South Carolina had used two ineligible players during the 1965 season and required the Gamecocks to forfeit their four conference victories and share of the conference title. However, the Gamecocks and the NCAA do not acknowledge these forfeits, and their records continue to show the record of 5-5 (4-2) South Carolina Forfeits ACC Wins Due To Illegal Aid https://www.newspapers.com/clip/109066157/the-herald-sun/ Durham Morning Herald Durham, North Carolina Associated Press July 30, 1966 2B September 6, 2022 Newspapers.com Schedule 1965 AP September 18 w y y The Citadel Johnson Hagood Stadium Charleston, SC 13–3 20,111 http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20151118/PC20/151119243 https://web.archive.org/web/20151119235229/http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20151118/PC20/151119243 dead November 19, 2015 Post and Courier Gene Sapakoff November 18, 2015 November 19, 2015 Ted Wingard's glory and the 1965 Gamecocks-Citadel game in Charleston September 25 l Duke Carolina Stadium Columbia, SC 15–20 39,000 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-roanoke-times-duke-nudges-gamecocks/139208161/ The Roanoke Times Duke nudges Gamecocks September 26, 1965 January 20, 2024 Newspapers.com October 2 w NC State Carolina Stadium Columbia, SC 13–7 20,314 https://www.newspapers.com/article/florence-morning-news-garnto-and-poole-p/139204687/ Florence Morning News Garnto and Poole pace Carolina to 13–7 victory over Wolfpack October 3, 1965 January 20, 2024 Newspapers.com October 9 l y y Tennessee rivalry Neyland Stadium Knoxville, TN 3–24 38,519 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/101282212/gamecocks-bow-to-vols-by-24-to-3/ The Progress-Index Gamecocks bow to Vols by 24 to 3 October 10, 1965 May 7, 2022 Newspapers.com October 16 w Wake Forest Carolina Stadium Columbia, SC 38–7 28,000 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-danville-register-south-carolina-tur/139212255/ The Danville Register South Carolina turns back Wake Forest by 38–7 count October 17, 1965 January 20, 2024 Newspapers.com October 23 l y y LSU 9 Tiger Stadium Baton Rouge, LA 7–21 66,000 https://www.newspapers.com/article/clarion-ledger-lsu-tigers-217-over-game/133740911/ The Clarion-Ledger LSU Tigers 21–7 over Gamecocks October 24, 1965 January 20, 2024 Newspapers.com October 30 l Maryland Carolina Stadium Columbia, SC 14–27 30,000 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-herald-sun-maryland-turns-back-gamec/139210267/ Durham Sunday Herald Maryland turns back Gamecocks by 27–14 October 31, 1965 January 20, 2024 Newspapers.com November 6 w y Virginia Scott Stadium Charlottesville, VA 17–7 15,000–18,000 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-progress-index-wobbly-pass-blocked/139211647/ The Progress-Index Wobbly pass, blocked punt beat Cavaliers November 7, 1965 January 20, 2024 Newspapers.com November 13 l y y Alabama 5 Denny Stadium Tuscaloosa, AL 14–35 38,776–40,500 Charles Land Sloan pitches, Tide wins 9 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=Bf4cAAAAIBAJ&sjid=EZsEAAAAIBAJ&pg=7303%2C1993107 The Tuscaloosa News November 14, 1965 June 16, 2013Jimmy Smothers Sloan brings Tide in for 35–14 win 21 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=0BApAAAAIBAJ&sjid=FNcEAAAAIBAJ&pg=1095%2C1444808 The Gadsden Times November 14, 1965 June 16, 2013 November 20 w Clemson Carolina Stadium Columbia, SC rivalry 17–16 44,500 USC Edges Clemson In A Thriller, 17 To 16 The Greenville News Jim Anderson November 21, 1965 1 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/36779711/usc_edges_clemson_in_a_thriller_17_to/ Newspapers.com 1965 Football Schedule Sports Reference LLC July 31, 2017 https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/south-carolina/1965.html References South Carolina Category:South Carolina Gamecocks football seasons South Carolina Gamecocks football
