Synthesis of 2,5-dimethoxyphenethylamine
2,5-Dimethoxyphenylacetaldehyde is formed as a result of the synthesis of 2,5-dimethoxyphenethylamine from 2,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde using glycidate until it is converted into the final product.

First, 2,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde is reacted with methyl chloroacetate in the presence of sodium methylate to form an intermediate epoxide ester; the alkali hydrolyses the ester to form the potassium salt of glycidic acid; decarboxylation then yields 2,5-dimethoxyphenylacetaldehyde. Hydroxylamine is added to the aldehyde; it replaces the oxygen in the aldehyde to form an oxime, which is reduced to 2C-H.
