Goaltender Josh Harding was seriously injured and the Wild signed free agent Jose Theodore to a one-year contract upon the team's return to Minnesota. However, a 3–1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on April 2 officially eliminated the team from playoff contention for a third consecutive season, finishing 12th in the West and 11 points out of a playoff spot.
