A total of 20 teams competed in the season, which started on 21 August 2009 and ended on 23 May 2010. Changes from 2008–09 The major changes for this season apply to international qualification. For the 2010 Copa Libertadores, an aggregate table of the two tournaments held in 2009 (2009 Clausura and 2009 Apertura) will be taken into account, instead of an average of the past three tournaments. For the 2010 Copa Sudamericana, River Plate and Boca Juniors will no longer be invited without merit. Their open berths will be up for qualification to any team, including themselves. On 21 August, the Argentine Football Association revoked the television broadcasting contract with TyC in the hopes of increasing revenue to help the financially struggling clubs.http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=667416&sec=global&cc=3888 Argentine government seeking ways to help clubs ESPN 19 August 2009 17 November 2010 23 October 2012 https://web.archive.org/web/20121023214715/http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=667416&sec=global&cc=3888 dead http://23adiario.elargentino.com/nota-53189-La-AFA-rompio-el-contrato-televisivo-con-la-empresa-TyC-y-confirmo-que-vuelve-el-futbol.html La AFA anunció que rompió el contrato con TyC es AFA announced that they broke their contract with TyC 11 August 2009 17 November 2010 Diario El Argentino https://web.archive.org/web/20110710174906/http://23adiario.elargentino.com/nota-53189-La-AFA-rompio-el-contrato-televisivo-con-la-empresa-TyC-y-confirmo-que-vuelve-el-futbol.html 10 July 2011 usurped On 18 August, the AFA and the Government of Argentina struck a deal to broadcast the season for free on non-cable channels, which allowed the season to start on the 21st.http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=668777&sec=global&cc=3888 https://web.archive.org/web/20110604100310/http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=668777&sec=global&cc=3888 dead 4 June 2011 Argentina strikes deal with govt to show games ESPN 19 August 2010 17 November 2010 Club information Argentina right 275 Locations of the 2009–10 Primera División teams outside Greater Buenos Aires Argentina -26.812813 -65.199238 Atlético Tucumán bottom Argentina -34.603611 -58.381667 Buenos Aires left Argentina -31.663265 -60.725188 Colón right Argentina -32.889546 -68.879981 Godoy Cruz left Argentina -32.956021 -60.661496 Newell's Old BoysRosario Central right Argentina -34.912038 -57.938941 EstudiantesGimnasia y Esgrima (LP) bottom Argentina Greater Buenos Aires right 350 Locations of the 2009–10 Primera División teams within Greater Buenos Aires Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.606096 -58.472623 Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.678309 -58.340529 Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.750854 -58.387570 Banfield bottom Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.635653 -58.364679 Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.567403 -58.528141 Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.643452 -58.396497 Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.667466 -58.368561 Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.717690 -58.383786 Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.545305 -58.449732 Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.652064 -58.440119 Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.449274 -58.542060 Tigre left Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.635375 -58.520711 TransparentPlaceholder.png Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.62 -58.70 Argentinos Juniors left TransparentPlaceholder.png Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.72 -58.34 Arsenal TransparentPlaceholder.png Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.62 -58.38 Boca Juniors TransparentPlaceholder.png Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.56 -58.62 Chacarita Juniors left TransparentPlaceholder.png Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.58 -58.43 Huracán TransparentPlaceholder.png Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.67 -58.33 Independiente, Racing TransparentPlaceholder.png Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.78 -58.38 Lanús TransparentPlaceholder.png Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.52 -58.49 River Plate TransparentPlaceholder.png Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.76 -58.42 San Lorenzo left TransparentPlaceholder.png Argentina Greater Buenos Aires -34.69 -58.55 Vélez Sársfield left Twenty clubs will participate in the 2009–10 season, with eighteen sides remaining from the previous season.
