It was the first census conducted by a permanent statistical office named Janasankhya Goswara (Department of Population), during the period of Rana Prime Minister Juddha Shumsher. The department had attempted to improve census coverage by improving the schedule, by recruiting more enumerators and also by reducing the census areas. The census recorded a total population of 6,283,649.https://nepal.unfpa.org/sites/default/files/pub-pdf/PopulationMonograph2014Volume1.pdf POPULATION MONOGRAPH OF NEPAL VOLUME I (Population Dynamics) Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Nepal 2014 978-9937-2-8971-9https://censusnepal.cbs.gov.np/results/files/main-part-janaganana/janaganana.pdf नेपालमा जनगणना National Statistics Office (NSO), Nepal ne Census in Nepal https://web.archive.org/web/20230714165804/https://censusnepal.cbs.gov.np/results/files/main-part-janaganana/janaganana.pdf 2023-07-14 live Key findings The key findings of 1941–42 census are as follows: Total population6,283,649Intercensal change751,075Intercensal change percentage13.58%Annual growth rate1.16%Population density (per km2)42.7Male population3,207,709Female population3,075,940Gender ratio104.3 Population distribution +Population by regionNational Population Census 1952−54 Statistical Tables https://microdata.nsonepal.gov.np/index.php/catalog/15/download/390 National Statistics Office (NSO), Nepal ZIP (HTML Tables)RegionPopulationPercentage (%)Eastern Hill1,270,58920.22Eastern Inner Terai39,4860.63Eastern Terai1,518,02824.16Kathmandu Valley325,1395.17Central Inner Terai128,7902.05Western Hill2,549,34240.57Western Terai286,2624.56Far Western Terai166,0132.64Nepal6,283,649100 Population by district/sub-district +Population by district/sub-district (1941-42)RegionDistrict / sub-district (जिल्ला / इलाका)PopulationEastern HillEast No. 1 (Chautara)Sindhupalchok134,782Kavrepalanchok114,005East No. 2 (Ramechhap)159,705East No. 3 (Okhaldhunga) 193,002East No. 4 (Bhojpur)Including Majhkirat Ilaka.
