1985 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

August 2023 1985 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Indianapolis, Indiana, United States June 15–17 IUPUI Track and Soccer Stadium 1984 1986 thumb The 1985 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships took place between June 15–17 at IUPUI Track and Soccer Stadium on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Indiana. The meet was organized by The Athletics Congress. The decathlon and heptathlon were held the two days after the main meet. Marathon National Championships were held at the California International Marathon in December. The most notable event at this meet was Willie Banks' world record in the triple jump. The jump occurred almost by accident as the always exuberant Banks took his attempt and rushed out of the pit in order to cheer for his Athletics West teammate Louise Romo, who was finishing her 800 meters race.http://www.upi.com/Archives/1985/06/16/Willie-Banks-smashed-the-world-record-in-the-triple/6389487742400/ Willie Banks smashed the world record in the triple Results Men track events 100 meters (+0.0 m/s) Kirk Baptiste 10.11 Lee McNeill 10.17 Calvin Smith 10.18 200 meters (+0.3 m/s) Kirk Baptiste 20.11 Roy Martin 20.13 Calvin Smith 20.26400 meters Mark Rowe 44.87 Darrell Robinson 44.94 Roddie Haley 45.06800 meters Johnny Gray 1:44.01 John Marshall 1:44.53 Earl Jones 1:44.581500 meters Jim Spivey 3:39.54 Steve Scott 3:39.61 Tim Hacker 3:39.635000 meters Doug Padilla 13:16.42 Sydney Maree 13:17.13 Matt Centrowitz 13:33.92 10,000 meters Bruce Bickford 28:00.10 Mark Nenow 28:12.60 Pat Porter 28:12.90110 meters hurdles(+1.1 m/s) Roger Kingdom 13.26 Cletus Clark 13.43 Keith Talley 13.59 400 meters hurdles Andre Phillips 47.67 Danny Harris 48.65 Tony Rambo 49.293000 meters steeplechase Henry Marsh 8:18.35 Brian Diemer 8:20.64 Farley Gerber 8:21.9910 kilometres race walk Tim Lewis 28:26.46 Marco Evoniuk 29:28.12 Todd Scully 30:12.16 Men field events High jump Brian Stanton 7 6.5 Lee Balkin 7 5.25 Darren Burton 7 5.25 Pole vault Joe Dial 18 9.25 Mike Tully 18 5.25 Billy Olson 18 5.25 Long jump Mike Conley 28 0w Jason Grimes 27 10.75w Mike Powell 27 2w Triple jump Willie Banks 58 11.5 WR, AR, CR Mike Conley 58 1.25 Charlie Simpkins 57 5.75 Shot put Dave Laut 68 11.75 John Brenner 68 9.75 Jesse Stuart 68 1 Discus throw John Powell 214 4 Art Burns 211 10 Judd Binley 210 3 Hammer throw Jud Logan 250 2 Dave McKenzie 232 4 Ken Flax 230 3 Javelin throw Tom Petranoff 286 1 Tom Jadwin 284 6 Duncan Atwood 276 10 Decathlon John Sayre 8381w Mike Ramos 8156w Tim Bright 8068 Women track events 100 metersMerlene Ottey-Page JAM 10.98https://www.nytimes.com/1985/12/29/sports/winners-of-individual-and-team-championships-during-1985.html?pagewanted=all Winners of Individual and Team Championships During 1985 The New York Times 29 December 1985Pam Marshallhttp://trackfield.brinkster.net/USATournaments.asp?TourCode=N&Year=1985&Gender=W&TF=T&P=F&By=Y&Count= Track and Field Statistics 11.21Diane Williams 11.23 200 metersMerlene Ottey-Page JAM 21.93Pam Marshall 22.39Grace Jackson JAM 22.57 400 metersLillie Leatherwood 50.64https://www.nytimes.com/1985/06/17/sports/banks-triple-jumps-to-world-record.html?scp=22&sq=Willie%20Banks&st=cse Banks Triple Jumps to World Record The New York Times 17 June 1985 Litsky FrankDiane Dixon 50.79Ilrey Oliver JAM 51.96800 metersClaudette Groenendaal 1:59.48Louise Romo 1:59.63Delisa Walton 2:00.171500 metersDiana Richburg 4:04.73Darlene Beckford 4.06.46Ruth Wysocki 4.07.423000 metersCathy Branta 8:49.64https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/90922547/ Herald and Review from Decatur, Illinois on June 17, 1985 · Page 14Cindy Bremser 8.49.6Mary Knisely 8.52.545000 metershttps://more.arrs.run/race/16849 ARRS -
