1936 International Lawn Tennis Challenge

1936 edition of the International Lawn Tennis Challenge January 2025 1936 International Lawn Tennis Challenge 10 April – 28 July 1936 31st 23 GBR 1935 1937 The 1936 International Lawn Tennis Challenge was the 31st edition of what is now known as the Davis Cup. Due to the low number of competing South American teams, the North & Central America and South America Zones were scrapped and the Americas played in one unified zone. From this edition, the Qualifying Round system of the Europe Zone was scrapped. 19 teams entered the Europe Zone (including Argentina, the only South American team to enter), while 4 teams entered the Americas Zone. Australia defeated the United States in the Americas Zone final, while in the Europe Zone final Germany defeated Yugoslavia. The Australians then defeated Germany in the Inter-Zonal play-off, but would fall to Great Britain in the Challenge Round. The final was played at the All England Club Centre Court in Wimbledon, London, England on 25–28 July.Bud Collins The Bud Collins History of Tennis 2010 New Chapter Press [New York] 978-0942257700 495–496, 499 2ndThe Encyclopedia of Tennis 1974 Allen & Unwin London 0047960426 Max Robertson 384 America Zone 1936 International Lawn Tennis Challenge America Zone Draw 10–12 April 30 May–1 June AUS w/o CUB Houston, TX, United States (clay) USA 1912 5 MEX 1934 0 Philadelphia, PA, United States (grass) AUS 3 USA 1912 2 Final United States vs. Australia United States 1912 Australia Germantown Cricket Club, Philadelphia, PA, United Stateshttps://www.daviscup.com/en/draws-results/tie.aspx?id=M-DC-1936-AME-M-USA-AUS-01 United States v Australia daviscup.com 30 May–1 June 1936 Grass 2 3 Wilmer Allison 3 7 4 1 Adrian Quist 6 5 6 6 Don Budge 6 6 4 1 13 Jack Crawford 2 3 6 6 11 Don Budge Gene Mako 6 6 4 5 4 Jack Crawford Adrian Quist 4 2 6 7 6 Wilmer Allison 6 3 6 2 2 Jack Crawford 4 6 4 6 6 Don Budge 6 6 6 Adrian Quist 2 2 4 Europe Zone 1936 International Lawn Tennis Challenge Europe Zone Draw 1 y 24 April–3 May First Round Barcelona, Spain (clay) ESP 1931 1 GER Nazi 4 Monte Carlo, Monaco NED 3 MON 2 Paris, France (clay) FRA 1830 5 ROC 0 8–17 May 4–7 June 12–15 June 10–12 July Second Round Dublin, Ireland (grass) IRL 4 SWE 1 Montreux, Switzerland SUI 5 DEN 0 Athens, Greece GRE old 1 ARG 4 Düsseldorf, Germany HUN 1920 0 GER 1935 5 Scheveningen, Netherlands (clay) NED 1 FRA 1830 4 Zagreb, Yugoslavia Kingdom of Yugoslavia 3 TCH 2 Oslo, Norway (clay) NOR 2 BEL 3 Vienna, Austria AUT 1934 3 POL 1928 2 Dublin, Ireland (grass) IRL 3 SUI 2 Berlin, Germany ARG 1 GER 1935 4 Paris, France (clay) FRA 1830 2 Kingdom of Yugoslavia 3 Vienna, Austria BEL 1 AUT 1934 4 Berlin, Germany IRL 0 GER 1935 5 Vienna, Austria Kingdom of Yugoslavia 4 AUT 1934 1 Zagreb, Yugoslavia GER 1935 3 Kingdom of Yugoslavia 0 Final Yugoslavia vs. Germany Kingdom of Yugoslavia Germany 1935 Zagreb, Yugoslaviahttps://www.daviscup.com/en/draws-results/tie.aspx?id=M-DC-1936-EUR-M-YUG-GER-01 Yugoslavia v Germany daviscup.com 10–12 July 1936 0 3 Josip Palada 4 2 8 2 Gottfried von Cramm 6 6 6 6 Franjo Punčec 1 2 4 Henner Henkel 6 6 6 Franjo Kukuljević Dragutin Mitić 6 6 3 6 3 Gottfried von Cramm Henner Henkel 8 4 6 4 6 Franjo Punčec Gottfried von Cramm Josip Palada Henner Henkel Inter-Zonal Final Australia vs. Germany Australia Germany 1935 No. 1 Court, All England Club, Wimbledon, Englandhttps://www.daviscup.com/en/draws-results/tie.aspx?id=M-DC-1936-INZ-M-AUS-GER-01 Australia v Germany daviscup.com 18–21 July 1936 Grass 4 1 Jack Crawford 6 6 Henner Henkel 2 2 3 Adrian Quist 6 4 6 4 9 Gottfried von Cramm 4 6 4 6 11 Jack Crawford Vivian McGrath 6 4 6 6 Gottfried von Cramm Henner Henkel 4 6 4 4 Vivian McGrath 6 5 6 6 Henner Henkel 3 7 4 4 Jack Crawford 6 6 6 Hans Denker 3 1 4 Challenge Round Great Britain vs. Australia Great Britain Australia Centre Court, All England Club, Wimbledon, Englandhttps://www.daviscup.com/en/draws-results/tie.aspx?id=M-DC-1936-WG-CHR-GBR-AUS-01 Great Britain v Australia daviscup.com 25–28 July 1936 Grass 3 2 Bunny Austin 4 6 6 6 Jack Crawford 6 3 1 1 Fred Perry 6 4 7 6 Adrian Quist 1 6 5 2 Pat Hughes Raymond Tuckey 4 6 5 8 Jack Crawford Adrian Quist 6 2 7 10 Bunny Austin 4 6 5 2 Adrian Quist 6 3 7 6 Fred Perry 6 6 6 Jack Crawford 2 3 3 See also 1936 Wightman Cup References External links Davis Cup official website https://web.archive.org/web/20101018182625/http://www.daviscup.com/ October 18, 2010 Category:Davis Cups by year International Lawn Tennis Challenge International Lawn Tennis Challenge International Lawn Tennis Challenge Category:Events at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club
