For Varese, this was already the 13th appearance in the Final of a European club competition; the Italians won the FIBA European Champions Cup (5 times) and FIBA Saporta Cup (2 times) before. However, Varese's last European victory was back in 1980. Fraport Skyliners clawed their way back from a 12-point third-quarter deficit to edge out OpenjobMetis Varese 66–62 in a gripping FIBA Europe Cup final and lift the first European trophy in club history. Quantez Robertson of Fraport, who scored 15 points in the Final, was named Final Four MVP. 2016 FIBA Europe Cup Final background: #0080C8; color: #FFFFFF; border: 1px solid #000000; off 1 May 2016 20:30 Report Openjobmetis Varese ITA 62 GER Fraport Skyliners 66 16–15 15–10 16–13 15–28 Wayns 16 Davies 7 Cavaliero 4 Robertson 15 Barthel 10 Robertson 4 Le Colisée Chalon-sur-Saône 4,950 Emin Moğulkoç (TUR), Janusz Calik (POL), Martin Horozov (BUL) #ffffd0 expanded yes yes yes #b90b0d PG 2 USA Maalik Wayns 16 5 0 SG 11 USA Christopher Wright Chris Wright (basketball, born 1989) 13 2 2 SF 14 EST Kristjan Kangur 7 5 2 PF 30 Latvia Rihards Kuksiks 6 6 1 C 0 USA Brandon Davies 3 7 3 yes yes yes G 10 ITA Daniele Cavaliero 3 4 4 F/C 12 ITA Luca Campani 6 4 0 F 21 ITA Giancarlo Ferrero 2 0 0 F 23 ITA Umberto Pietrini yes G 15 ITA Manuel Rossi yes G 6 LTU Ovidijus Varanauskas yes G 7 ITA Filippo Testa y ITA Paolo Moretti _basket_in_white _blanksides2 b90b0d b90b0d Varese _whitethinlines _adidaswhite 00529A 00529A Skyliners yes yes yes #00529A PG 25 USA Jordan Theodore 13 2 2 SG 23 USA Quantez Robertson 15 5 4 SF 42 CAN Aaron Doornekamp 5 1 1 PF 21 GER Danilo Barthel 6 10 1 C 17 GER Johannes Voigtmann 9 6 2 yes yes yes G 7 GER Konstantin Klein 0 0 2 SG 9 USA John Little John Little (basketball) 6 8 0 C 24 USA Michael Morrison Mike Morrison (basketball, born 1989) 7 3 0 G 30 CAN Philip Scrubb 6 3 2 PG 10 GER Max Merz yes PF 22 GER Johannes Richter Johannes Richter (basketball) yes CAN Gordon Herbert Team captains (C): ITA Daniele Cavaliero (Varese) and USA Quantez Robertson (Frankfurt Skyliners) Final Four MVP Player Team USA Quantez Robertson GER Fraport Skyliners References See also 2016 Euroleague Final Four 2016 Eurocup Finals Final 2016 Category:2015–16 in French basketball Category:2015–16 in German basketball Category:2015–16 in Russian basketball Category:2015–16 in Italian basketball Category:Chalon-sur-Saône Category:International basketball competitions hosted by France Category:April 2016 sports events in Europe Category:May 2016 sports events in Europe
