It was the Crimson Tide's 95th overall and 54th season as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The team was led by head coach Bill Curry, in his first year, and played their home games at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama. They finished the season with a record of seven wins and five losses (7–5 overall, 4–3 in the SEC) and with a loss in the Hall of Fame Bowl to Michigan. Due to a major renovation project that resulted in the completion of the western upper deck, Alabama played all of their home games at Legion Field instead of splitting them with Bryant–Denny Stadium for the 1987 season.Renovation at Bryant–Denny welcome news Andrew Carroll 2F https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=H4o0AAAAIBAJ&sjid=lKUEAAAAIBAJ&pg=6698%2C6277559 The Tuscaloosa News January 25, 1987 February 21, 2012 Schedule 1987 AP Central September 5 1:30 p.m. w y Southern Miss Legion Field Birmingham, AL 38–6 75,808 Clay Andy September 6, 1987 Alabama swamps Golden Eagles https://www.newspapers.com/clip/71565507/alabama-swamps-golden-eagles/ February 20, 2021 Hattiesburg American Newspapers.com September 12 7:00 p.m. w y y 19 Penn State 11 Beaver Stadium University Park, PA rivalry CBS 24–13 85,619 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/71565719/alabama-rolls-over-penn-state/ The Philadelphia Inquirer Alabama rolls over Penn State September 13, 1987 February 20, 2021 Newspapers.com September 19 11:30 a.m. l 11 Florida Legion Field Birmingham, AL rivalry TBS 14–23 75,808 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/71565961/smith-gators-give-alabama-the-runaround/ The Tampa Tribune Smith, Gators give Alabama the runaround September 20, 1987 February 20, 2021 Newspapers.com September 26 7:00 p.m. w y 17 Vanderbilt Vanderbilt Stadium Nashville, TN 30–23 41,824 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/71566152/humphrey-tide-outlast-gritty-vu/ The Tennessean Humphrey, Tide outlast gritty VU September 27, 1987 February 20, 2021 Newspapers.com October 3 3:00 p.m. w y y 17 Southwestern Louisiana Legion Field Birmingham, AL 38–10 72,233 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/71566343/usl-haunted-by-reality-of-division-1-a/ The Daily Advertiser USL haunted by reality of Division 1-A October 4, 1987 February 20, 2021 Newspapers.com October 10 3:00 p.m. l y y 15 Memphis State Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium Memphis, TN 10–13 40,622 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/71566584/tigers-13-bama-10-memphis-st-stund/ The Montgomery Advertiser Tigers 13, Bama 10 - Memphis St. stund Tide October 11, 1987 February 20, 2021 Newspapers.com October 17 6:00 p.m. w Tennessee 8 Legion Field Birmingham, AL Third Saturday in October ESPN 41–22 75,808 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/71566767/alabama-swamps-tennessee-4122/ The Tennessean Alabama swamps Tennessee 41–22 October 18, 1987 February 20, 2021 Newspapers.com October 31 7:30 p.m. w 16 Mississippi State Legion Field Birmingham, AL rivalry 21–18 73,877 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/71566981/alabama-barely-beats-msu-2118/ Enterprise-Journal Alabama barely beats MSU, 21–18 November 1, 1987 February 20, 2021 Newspapers.com November 7 6:30 p.m. w y 13 LSU 5 Tiger Stadium Baton Rouge, LA rivalry ESPN 22–10 79,379 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/71567152/bama-nothing-fancy-about-it/ The Shreveport Times 'Bama: Nothing fancy about it November 8, 1987 February 20, 2021 Newspapers.com November 14 1:30 p.m. l y y 11 Notre Dame 7 Notre Dame Stadium Notre Dame, IN CBS 6–37 59,075 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/71567355/irish-leave-bama-bloodied-battered/ The South Bend Tribune Irish leave 'Bama bloodied, battered November 15, 1987 February 20, 2021 Newspapers.com November 27 Friday 1:30 p.m. l y 18 Auburn 7 Legion Field Birmingham, AL Iron Bowl CBS 0–10 75,808 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/71567587/au-defense-mauls-tide/ The Montgomery Advertiser AU defense mauls Tide November 28, 1987 February 20, 2021 Newspapers.com January 2, 1988 12:00 p.m. l y y Michigan Tampa Stadium Tampa, FL Hall of Fame Bowl NBC 24–28 60,156 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/71567846/this-ones-for-bo-2824/ Detroit Free Press This one's for Bo, 28–24 January 3, 1988 February 20, 2021 Newspapers.com https://rolltide.com/sports/2016/6/10/sports-m-footbl-archive-m-footbl-archive-1987-html.aspx?id=191 1987 Alabama football archives RollTide.com University of Alabama Department of Intercollegiate Athletics February 20, 2021 Game summaries At LSU Alabama 6 0 7 9 LSU 0 10 0 0 November 7 Tiger Stadium 79,379 ESPN yes Q1 8:28 ALA Doyle 45 yard field goal ALA 3–0 Q1 4:27 ALA Doyle 29 yard field goal ALA 6–0 Q2 14:44 LSU Browndyke 37 yard field goal ALA 6–3 Q2 6:14 LSU V.
