The race was won by 100/1 Irish outsider Caughoo. The eight-year-old was ridden by 35-year-old jockey Eddie Dempsey and trained by Herbert McDowell, for owner John McDowell who had bought Caughoo for £50. The Irish Lough Conn finished in second place, Kami, from France, was third, and Prince Regent, also from Ireland, fourth. Fifty-seven horses ran – the largest field since 1929 when 66 participated – and all returned safely to the stables.https://www.grandnationalultimatehistory.com/races-1947.html 1947 Finishing order PositionNameJockeyAgeHandicap (st-lb)SPDistance01CaughooEddie Dempsey810-0100/120 lengths02Lough ConnDaniel McCann1110-133/14 Lengths03KamiJohn Hislop1010-1333/104Prince RegentTim Hyde1212-78/105Some ChickenBob Turnell1010-240/106HousewarmerBobby O'Ryan1010-625/107RefugioF Adams911-0100/1 08KilnagloryBryan Marshall1211-140/109ClyduffeMatt Hogan1210-050/110OcultorMr D Owen1211-0100/111ToyetteMajor R Waugh-Harris1010-6100/112Halcyon HoursM Gordon711-250/113Brick BatEddie Newman810-066/114SchubertCliff Beechener1310-1166/115Leap ManFred Rimell1011-050/116Brighter SandyJohn Eustace-Smith910-766/117RearmamentGlen Kelly1011-133/118Rowland BoyDicky Black810-366/119Handy LadCapt W Williams1210-0100/1 Non-finishers FenceNameJockeyAgeHandicap (st-lb)SPFate24BricettMC Prendergast1011-122/1Fell01RevelryDan Moore710-12100/6Fell28Silver FameBobby Petre810-1233/1Fell28Jack FinlayWilliam Kidney810-833/1Fell06Luan CascaAubrey Brabazon710-722/1Fell03BullingtonJack Bissill1110-666/1Fell01EPMartin Molony1210-5100/1Fell19KlaxtonJ Maguire710-566/1Fell24Musical LadMJ Prendergast1010-433/1Fell11BogskarRoger Burford1410-4100/1Fell13First of the DandiesJ Moloney1010-366/1Fell22MacMoffatIan Alder1510-4100/1Fell12Sheila's CottageArthur Thompson810-140/1Fell03Michael's PearlEddie Reavey810-0100/1Fell19Bomber CommandAndrew Jarvis810-0100/1Fell12ParthenonPatrick Murray810-040/1Fell26Soda IIFred Gurney610-250/1Fell09PrattlerPaddy Conlon1210-050/122Black JenniferJoe Sheenan710-050/1Fell27Double SamH Haley1210-0100/1Fell15GyppoMr J Cousins1310-0100/1Fell23Good DateJack Dowdeswell910-0100/1Fell12Border BobJohn Neely910-0100/1Fell19TribuneKevin Gilsenan1310-0100/1Fell19Oh JoeErnest Vinall710-0100/1Fell08ShanakillBill Denson910-0100/1Fell06Day DreamsM Browne810-0100/1Pulled Up09LinthillP Taylor1110-0100/1Pulled Up04Wicklow WolfMJ Hogan710-0100/1Pulled Up21Yung-YatJimmy Brogan1110-1100/1Pulled Up28GormanstownTim Molony710-940/1Pulled Up20DominoDanny Morgan710-028/1Pulled UpUnknownMartin MMajor WH Skrine710-066/1Pulled Up28Jubilee FlightE Hannigan1210-0100/1Pulled Up24Grecian VictoryPeter Lay1010-0100/1Brought Down28TulyraDerek Jackson1110-0100/1Refused12GranitzaN Dixon810-0100/1Refused03PatrickswellPeter Cahalin910-0100/1Carried Out The Grand National : the history of the Aintree spectacular, by Stewart Peters & Bernard Parkin, 0-7524-3547-7 http://fiftiesnationals.webs.com/1947.htm 1947 http://www.grand-national.net/past_winners.htm Past Winners of the Grand National 18 November 2011 https://web.archive.org/web/20111104085359/http://www.grand-national.net/past_winners.htm 4 November 2011 dead References 1947 1947 Grand National Grand National Category:March 1947 sports events in the United Kingdom
