Led by Jerry Pettibone in his sixth and final season as head coach, the Beavers compiled an overall record of 2–9 with a mark of 1–7 in conference play, placing last out of ten teams in the Pac-10, and were outscored by opponents 388 to 216. It was the program's 26th consecutive losing season, and the 388 points allowed were the most by an Oregon State team since the 1987 season. The team played home games at Parker Stadium in Corvallis, Oregon. Pettibone resigned at the end of the season, in late November, and was succeeded by Mike Riley.https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=D2NWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=B_IDAAAAIBAJ&pg=1597%2C4302754 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Associated Press Coaching merry-go-round picks up speed November 26, 1996 C1 Schedule 1996 AP Pacific September 7 1:00 pm l y Montana Parker Stadium Corvallis, OR 14–35 28,166 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-bulletin-osu-overmatches-by-montana/176821527/ The Bulletin OSU overmatches by Montana, 35–14 September 8, 1996 July 16, 2025 Newspapers.com September 14 3:30 pm l y USC 16 Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Los Angeles, CA FSN 17–46 48,069 September 21 12:30 pm l y y Baylor Floyd Casey Stadium Waco, TX ABC 10–42 42,327 September 28 12:30 pm l y California California Memorial Stadium Berkeley, CA 42–48 34,000 October 12 1:00 pm l Washington State Parker Stadium Corvallis, OR 3–24 26,722 October 19 1:00 pm w Stanford Parker Stadium Corvallis, OR 26–12 21,305 October 26 7:00 pm l y Arizona Arizona Stadium Tucson, AZ 7–33 43,716 November 2 1:00 pm l Arizona State 4 Parker Stadium Corvallis, OR 14–29 21,946 November 9 12:30 pm l y Washington 19 Husky Stadium Seattle, WA 3–42 71,072 November 16 1:00 pm w y Northern Illinois Parker Stadium Corvallis, OR 67–28 17,215 November 23 1:00 pm l Oregon Parker Stadium Corvallis, OR Civil War 13–49 35,822 College Football @ Sports-Reference.com Roster 1996 Oregon State Beavers f 10 So Tim Alexander QB yes 50 Fr Aaron Koch C yes 85 Fr Bradon Lafferty WR 55 Fr Shawn Ball DT https://web.archive.org/web/19961220134155/http://www.orst.edu:80/dept/athletics/team/fbroster.htm *Jerry Pettibone (6th year) 1996-12-20 References Oregon State Category:Oregon State Beavers football seasons Oregon State Beavers football
