Great Taste had the returning Jeff Collins, a former best import awardee who led the CFC ballclub to a title back in 1984, and Michael David Holton (the third import to arrived as Collins' partner after Mike Wilson and Gregory Jones) as their imports going up against the Tanduay pair of Rob Williams and Andre McKoy. The Coffee Makers were the odds-on favorite to win the title due to their championship experience, but the Rhum Makers were determined to end a long-drought and gave their franchise its first PBA title. Great Taste lost to Tanduay in six games in the Best-of-seven title series. Occurrences Great Taste's first choice for an import in the Open Conference, Anthony Frederick, arrived and was measured slightly over six-foot-six, the limit for one of the two imports. Sources said at least two teams refused to grant the exception, leaving the Coffee Makers with no choice but to send him back home. Frederick only saw action as a guest import for amateur club RFM-Swifts that beat Alaska Milk in the PBA-PABL exhibition series at the Rizal Coliseum a week before the start of the Third Conference. The Coffee Makers paraded two new imports, Lewis Jackson and Alvin Franklin, at the start of the second round of eliminations in the Open Conference, replacing Johnny Brown and Eric Turner.http://rpbasketballphotos.blogspot.com/2012/11/1986-pba-open-newspaper-clips.html Ginebra back at helm Won-loss records vs opponents Team Win Loss 1st (Reinforced) 2nd (All-Filipino) 3rd (Open) Alaska 7 1 3-1 1-0 3-0 Ginebra 6 5 2-2 2-1 2-2 Magnolia 2 0 N/A N/A 2-0 Manila Beer 2 5 1-1 1-0 0-4 Shell 9 5 4-0 4-3 1-2 Tanduay 9 12 4-6 0-3 5-3 RP-Magnolia 1 0 N/A 1-0 N/ATotal 36 28 14-10 9-7 13-11 Roster n Great Taste Coffee #f47b34 #000000 #f47b34 #000000 1 Manny Victorino C 6 5 JRU PHI 5 Steve Watson basketball GF 6 2 Ateneo PHI 6 Abe King F 6 3 San Beda PHI 7 Joel Banal C 6 5 Mapua PHI 7 Federico Lauchengco G 6 0 FEU PHI 10 Carlson Samlani C 6 5 San Sebastian PHI 11 Jaime Manansala G 5 11 UE PHI 12 Rafael Sison G 6 1 Ateneo de Davao PHI 14 Leopoldo Herrera F 6 3 Wesleyan University Philippines PHI 15 Aaron Torres basketball G 5 10 UE PHI 22 Matthew Gaston basketball G 6 1 Ateneo de Manila PHI 23 Ricardo Brown basketball G 5 11 Pepperdine USA 29 Bernardo Carpio basketball F 6 3 Ateneo PHI 33 Willie Pearson F 6 1 Chaminade USA 9 & 34 Renato Kabigting G 6 1 Ateneo PHI PHI Baby Dalupan PHI Jimmy Mariano Imports Tournament Name # Height From 1986 PBA Reinforced Conference Jeff Collins 24 6 3 UNLV Mike Wilson 2 6 3 Marquette University Greg Jones 6 2 West Virginia University Michael Holton 14 6 3 University of California 1986 PBA Open Conference Johnny Brown 3 6 6 University of New Mexico Eric Turner 12 6 3 University of Michigan Alvin Franklin 20 6 3 University of Houston Lewis Jackson 24 6 6 Alabama State University References Category:Great Taste Coffee Makers seasons Great
