Rather than in the traditional autumn-spring format the Oberliga played for six seasons from 1955 to 1960 in the calendar year format, modelled on the system used in the Soviet Union. From 1961–62 onwards the league returned to its traditional format. The league was contested by fourteen teams. SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt, incidentally based at Aue and not Karl-Marx-Stadt, won the championship, the club's second consecutive one, having won the 1956 championship as well.https://www.rsssf.org/tablesd/ddrchamp.html East Germany - List of Champions RSSSF 19 January 2016https://www.dfb.de/historie/ddr-fussball/meister/ DDR-Meister dfb.de German Football Association 19 January 2016 de East German champions On the strength of the 1957 title Wismut qualified for the 1958–59 European Cup where the club was knocked out by Young Boys Bern in the quarter-finals.https://www.rsssf.org/ec/ec195859.html European Competitions 1958-59 RSSSF 19 January 2016 live https://web.archive.org/web/20160112171048/http://www.rsssf.com/ec/ec195859.html 12 January 2016 Heinz Kaulmann of ASK Vorwärts Berlin was the league's top scorer with 15 goals.http://www.weltfussball.de/torschuetzenkoenige/gdr-oberliga/ DDDR » Oberliga » Torschützenkönige Weltfussball.de 19 January 2016 de DDR-Oberliga top scorers Table The 1957 season saw two newly promoted clubs, SC Motor Jena and SC Chemie Halle-Leuna.https://www.rsssf.org/tablesd/ddrhist.html East Germany 1946-1990 RSSSF 19 January 2016http://www.weltfussball.de/spielplan/gdr-oberliga-1957-spieltag/26/ DDR » Oberliga 1957 Weltfussball.de 19 January 2016 de DDR-Oberliga 1957 main WDL QR 2 WIS SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt VWB ASK Vorwärts Berlin ROT SC Rotation Leipzig JEN SC Motor Jena ABS SC Aktivist Brieske-Senftenberg ERF SC Turbine Erfurt LOK SC Lokomotive Leipzig EIN SC Einheit Dresden WEI SC Fortschritt Weißenfels ZWI BSG Motor Zwickau BAB BSG Rotation Babelsberg HAL SC Chemie Halle-Leuna STN BSG Lokomotive Stendal MOT SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt 16 4 6 49 28 C 13 7 6 45 22 12 8 6 40 29 11 6 9 41 29 11 6 9 33 26 10 7 9 37 33 9 8 9 36 32 8 9 9 40 44 8 7 11 38 38 9 5 12 35 43 8 7 11 29 44 9 4 13 42 51 9 4 13 28 43 R 3 10 13 31 62 R green1 Qualification to European Cup preliminary round EC lavender FDGB-Pokal winners FPW red1 Relegation to DDR-Liga R R complete Results main FBR grey ABS CHH EIN WEI LLE LST MJE KMS ZWI BAB ROT ERF VBE WIS Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt 4–1 1–3 3–1 3–0 0–2 0–0 1–0 3–0 2–1 5–1 3–4 3–1 3–0 Vorwärts Berlin 0–1 1–1 3–1 0–0 0–2 1–1 0–0 1–0 9–0 2–0 3–0 3–0 1–0 Rotation Leipzig 0–0 2–1 0–1 1–1 2–1 3–2 2–0 3–0 2–5 2–0 1–1 5–0 1–1 Motor Jena 1–2 0–2 0–2 1–1 1–1 1–1 6–1 1–0 4–0 3–0 3–0 3–0 1–1 Aktivist Brieske-Senftenberg 1–0 0–1 2–0 2–1 1–0 1–1 0–2 1–2 0–0 3–0 3–0 3–1 4–2 Turbine Erfurt 1–3 1–0 2–0 1–1 1–1 1–0 3–3 2–2 0–1 2–0 1–0 0–0 3–0 Lokomotive Leipzig 4–0 0–1 0–0 1–0 2–0 1–0 1–1 2–1 3–1 1–1 2–3 3–0 1–1 Einheit Dresden 1–2 1–1 0–1 0–0 2–1 1–3 4–2 1–4 3–0 2–2 5–2 4–2 4–3 Fortschritt Weißenfels 1–1 3–4 1–1 4–1 1–3 2–0 0–2 0–0 2–1 1–1 1–2 3–1 4–0 Motor Zwickau 0–1 1–1 1–2 3–0 1–0 2–1 5–1 1–1 1–0 3–1 0–1 0–1 4–1 Rotation Babelsberg 1–1 0–3 2–0 0–3 2–1 4–2 2–1 2–0 3–1 0–0 2–0 3–0 1–1 Chemie Halle-Leuna 2–3 0–4 1–3 0–2 0–2 3–4 1–3 3–1 1–1 2–1 4–1 3–0 8–1 Lokomotive Stendal 2–1 2–0 3–1 0–2 1–2 2–0 1–0 0–1 1–1 3–1 0–0 1–1 2–0 Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt 0–3 2–2 2–2 1–3 1–0 3–3 3–1 2–2 1–3 2–2 3–0 0–0 0–4 complete References Sources 1991 Das war unser Fußball im Osten This was our football in the East de Fußball-Woche (fuwo) Berlin Axel-Springer-Verlag External links Das Deutsche Fussball Archiv de Historic German league tables Category:1957 in domestic association football leagues 1957 Ober Ober Ober
