English football club season December 2022 Arsenal 1937–38 George Allison Bernard Forbes, 8th Earl of Granard Highbury First Division 1st FA Cup Fifth Round 1936–37 1938–39 The 1937–38 season was Arsenal's 19th consecutive season in the top division of English football. They won the league for the fifth time in eight years, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers by a point with a 5–0 final day victory over Bolton Wanderers. The Gunners had staged a surprise comeback to win the league after being eleventh in November, and went out of the FA Cup at the fifth round stage in February. Ted Drake once again top-scored for the Gunners with eighteen goals in all competition, with 17 of them coming in the league, but an injury to Drake forced manager George Allison to improvise with Eddie Carr up front, but he came to the fore with five goals in the final three games, with Arsenal winning each one.http://www.thearsenalhistory.com/?p=13162 Arsenal OTD 1938: "We Won the League at Highbury" 7 May 2016 Results Arsenal's score comes firsthttp://www.statto.com/football/teams/arsenal/1937-1938/results Arsenal results for the 1937-1938 season – Statto.com 8 March 2018 24 March 2016 https://web.archive.org/web/20160324060606/http://www.statto.com/football/teams/arsenal/1937-1938/results live Legend WinDrawLoss Football League First Division 1937–38 Football League DateOpponentVenueResultAttendanceScorers 28 August 1937 EvertonA4–153,856 1 September 1937 Huddersfield TownH3–132,758 4 September 1937 Wolverhampton WanderersH5–067,311 8 September 1937 Huddersfield TownA1–228,405 11 September 1937 Leicester CityA1–139,106 15 September 1937 Bolton WanderersA0–139,750 18 September 1937 SunderlandH4–165,635 25 September 1937 Derby CountyA0–233,101 2 October 1937 Manchester CityH2–168,353 9 October 1937 ChelseaA2–275,952 16 October 1937 PortsmouthH1–145,150 23 October 1937 Stoke CityA1–135,684 30 October 1937 MiddlesbroughH1–239,066 6 November 1937 Grimsby TownA1–220,244 13 November 1937 West Bromwich AlbionH1–140,324 20 November 1937 Charlton AthleticA3–055,078 27 November 1937 Leeds UnitedH4–134,350 4 December 1937 BirminghamA2–118,440 11 December 1937 Preston North EndH2–035,679 18 December 1937 LiverpoolA0–232,093 25 December 1937 BlackpoolA1–223,229 27 December 1937 BlackpoolH2–154,163 1 January 1938 EvertonH2–136,953 15 January 1938 Wolverhampton WanderersA1–339,383 29 January 1938 SunderlandA1–142,638 2 February 1938 Leicester CityH3–123,839 5 February 1938 Derby CountyH3–047,263 16 February 1938 Manchester CityA2–134,299 19 February 1938 ChelseaH2–049,573 26 February 1938 PortsmouthA0–043,991 5 March 1938 Stoke CityH2–035,296 12 March 1938 MiddlesbroughA1–246,747 19 March 1938 Grimsby TownH5–140,701 26 March 1938 West Bromwich AlbionA0–045,944 2 April 1938 Charlton AthleticH2–252,858 9 April 1938 Leeds UnitedA1–029,365 15 April 1938 BrentfordH0–251,299 16 April 1938 BirminghamH0–035,161 18 April 1938 BrentfordA0–334,601 23 April 1938 Preston North EndA3–142,684 30 April 1938 LiverpoolH1–034,703 7 May 1938 Bolton WanderersH5–040,500 Final League table First Division y ARS FA Cup 1937–38 FA Cup Arsenal entered the FA Cup in the third round, in which they were drawn to face Bolton Wanderers. +RoundDateOpponentVenueResultAttendanceGoalscorersR38 January 1938 Bolton WanderersH3–164,016R422 January 1938 Wolverhampton WanderersA2–161,267R512 February 1938 Preston North EndH0–172,121 See also English football 1937–38 in English football List of Arsenal F.C. seasons References September 2010 Arsenal Category:Arsenal F.C. seasons Category:English football championship–winning seasons
