Despite winning the first game of the regular season on October 8, 1992, the Senators won only nine more en route to their worst season ever. The team recorded three NHL records that season: the longest home losing streak of eleven, from October 27 to December 8; the longest road losing streak with a total of 39, from October 10 to April 3 (nearly the whole season) and fewest road wins in a season, with just one victory. Background The second iteration of the Ottawa Senators began in 1989 when Bruce Firestone, Cyril Leeder, and Randy Sexton came together to plan their attempt at acquiring a National Hockey League (NHL) franchise. The NHL was looking to add two new franchises by the 1992–93 season and after adding key personnel such as Jim Durrell, and Frank Finnigan from the original Senators franchise, the group submitted their proposal to the NHL. On December 6, 1990, the group was awarded a franchise upon payment of a $50 million expansion fee, which required additional investors, led by Rod Bryden.Garrioch 1998 225 In August 1991, Mel Bridgman was named the Senators first general manager.Ottawa Senators Media Guide 2009–10 2009 Ottawa Senators Kanata, Ontario 196–197 http://senators.nhl.com/v2/ext/PDFs/2009-10_Senators_Media_Guide.pdf June 2, 2010 June 14, 2011 https://web.archive.org/web/20110614212405/http://senators.nhl.com/v2/ext/PDFs/2009-10_Senators_Media_Guide.pdf dead While awaiting approval of the Palladium, their planned arena, the Senators agreed with the City of Ottawa to lease the Ottawa Civic Centre in December 1991, to play in for the upcoming season.https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-ottawa-citizen-take-it-or-leave-it-l/180861626/ Take-it-or-leave-it lease approved Ottawa Citizen F1 Eade Ron December 17, 1991 September 11, 2025 Newspapers.com registration Offseason right 10px Adams Division teams 800 290 190 0 1050 North America 2300 North America 42.37 -71.06 Black pog.svg 80 right Boston #ffe North America 42.88 -78.88 Black pog.svg 80 left Buffalo #ffe North America 41.77 -72.68 Black pog.svg 80 right Hartford #ffe North America 45.52 -73.59 Black pog.svg 80 right Montreal #ffe North America 45.40 -75.68 Black pog.svg 80 left Ottawa #ffe North America 46.83 -71.25 Black pog.svg 80 right Quebec #ffe On June 2, 1992, the then city of Kanata, Ontario, gave approval of the "Palladium" project.
