The 2012 season was the 26th in franchise history. In August, the Wings pulled off a blockbuster trade with the Edmonton Rush, sending star forward Athan Iannucci to the Rush along with Alex Turner, Brodie MacDonald, and three first round draft picks for two-time Transition Player of the Year Brodie Merrill, Dean Hill, Mike MacLellan, and two low draft picks.http://www.nll.com/article.php?id=5134 Philly & Edmonton make blockbuster trade NLL.com August 9, 2011 2011-10-11 2011-10-11 https://web.archive.org/web/20111011230227/http://nll.com/article.php?id=5134 dead A month later, the look of the team changed even more dramatically, as the Wings landed superstar forward Dan Dawson in the Boston Blazers dispersal draft. The 2012 version of Boston's "big three" was completed when the Wings picked up star Stony Brook forward Kevin Crowley first overall in the entry draft.http://www.nll.com/article.php?id=5170 2011 Entry Draft results September 21, 2011 NLL.com 2011-10-10 2011-10-10 https://web.archive.org/web/20111010190652/http://www.nll.com/article.php?id=5170 dead The significant roster changes didn't help the Wings in their first game of the year, a 22–12 pounding at the hands of the Rochester Knighthawks. But the Wings settled down and won four of their next five games, and seven of ten to take the lead in the East division. The wheels fell off at the end of March, however, as the Wings lost an overtime game to the Colorado Mammoth, and then lost their next four. The losing streak included three games at home, and the Wings didn't score more than ten goals in any of their last four games. They finished in third place in the East with a 7–9 record and made the playoffs. They traveled to Rochester to face the Knighthawks, who had beaten them three times already this season. In only their third playoff game since winning the Championship in 2001, the Wings came up a goal short, losing to the Knighthawks 14–13.http://www.nll.com/news_article/show/147832 Knighthawks eliminate Wings from postseason with 14–13 win NLL.com May 4, 2012 May 4, 2012 Regular season Conference standings PHI Game log Reference:http://www.nll.com/page/show/398479-philadelphia-wings?subseason=58066 Philadelphia Wings – National Lacrosse League May 8, 2012 NLL.com https://web.archive.org/web/20120518110622/http://www.nll.com/page/show/398479-philadelphia-wings?subseason=58066 May 18, 2012 dead mdy-allWells Fargo Center Wells Fargo Center (Philadelphia) 1/14/2012 Rochester Knighthawks 12 22 8813 1/21/2012 Washington Stealth 10 9 1 8024 1/27/2012 Buffalo Bandits First Niagara Center 1 13 10 14492 2/4/2012 Toronto Rock 6 15 7807 2/12/2012 Buffalo Bandits 14 13 8119 2/18/2012 Toronto Rock Air Canada Centre 1 14 8 10360 2/24/2012 Edmonton Rush Rexall Place 1 10 12 6708 3/3/2012 Rochester Knighthawks 8 11 8906 3/9/2012 Toronto Rock Air Canada Centre 1 12 10 9804 3/17/2012 Edmonton Rush 15 14 7524 3/23/2012 Colorado Mammoth Pepsi Center 1 13 12 14876 3/25/2012 Colorado Mammoth 15 16 1 8435 4/6/2012 Minnesota Swarm 9 13 8070 4/7/2012 Buffalo Bandits First Niagara Center 1 7 17 15060 4/21/2012 Minnesota Swarm Xcel Energy Center 1 10 15 9357 4/28/2012 Rochester Knighthawks Blue Cross Arena 1 7 9 8912 Playoffs Reference:http://www.nll.com/page/show/512884-philadelphia-wings?subseason=73254 Philadelphia Wings – National Lacrosse League May 8, 2012 NLL.com https://web.archive.org/web/20120517074932/http://www.nll.com/page/show/512884-philadelphia-wings?subseason=73254 May 17, 2012 dead mdy-allWells Fargo Center Wells Fargo Center (Philadelphia) Division Semifinal 5/4/2012 Rochester Knighthawks Blue Cross Arena 1 13 14 5176 Transactions Trades August 9, 2011 To Philadelphia Wings Brodie MerrillMike McLellanDean Hill41st overall pick, 2011 entry draft4th round pick, 2013 entry draft To Edmonton Rush Athan IannucciAlex TurnerBrodie McDonald1st round pick, 2012 entry draft1st round pick, 2013 entry draft1st round pick, 2014 entry draft Dispersal Draft The Wings chose the following players in the Boston Blazers dispersal draft: RoundOverallPlayer11 Dan Dawson210 John Orson319 Nick Cotter428 Brett Queener Entry draft The 2011 NLL Entry Draft took place on September 21, 2011.
