In fact the entire Russian team did not compete here amid the drug scandal surrounding their coach Viktor Chegin. It looked like world record holder, world leader Liu Hong, walking on home soil was the prohibitive favorite. Liu's one complication was her teammate Xiuzhi Lu. Like in the men's race, the two Chinese walkers took off hard from the start, only Anežka Drahotová tried to go with them. That lasted about 4 km, from that point on the two walkers were out on their own almost tied by a string, swapping the lead occasionally though Lu was setting the pace the majority of the time. They hit 5K in 22:24; 10K in 44:19 (21:55 split) with a 30-second lead and 15K in 1:06:24 (22:05 split). The chase pack was Lyudmyla Olyanovska, Elisa Rigaudo, Eleonora Giorgi and Érica de Sena. de Sena was the first to fall off pace around 12K, both of the Italians were later asked to leave the course. Between 10 and 15K the lead actually shrunk to 20 seconds, but the closing 5K in 21:22 settled it for everyone but the two Chinese walkers. They battled neck and neck until just about the time they re-entered the stadium, when Lu seemed to concede to Liu and walked the remainder on the track in her footsteps. With the domestic crowd going crazy, Lu crossed the finish line virtually in Liu's shadow, the separation of 0.26 seconds giving the closest finish for a race walk in World Athletics Championships history. Because it is a road course, the official times are accurate to only one second so both athlete's times round to the same time. Olyanovska continued to hold on, finishing just 28 seconds back for bronze. The rest of the field finished more than 1:15 behind her.http://www.iaaf.org/news/report/beijing-2015-20km-race-walk REPORT: WOMEN'S 20KM RACE WALK – IAAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, BEIJING 2015 28 August 2015 iaaf.org 2 September 2015 It was the first gold medal for the home team at these championships.http://www.iaaf.org/competitions/iaaf-world-championships/15th-iaaf-world-championships-4875/news/report/women/20-kilometres-race-walk/final Error 200 | World Athletics Records Prior to the competition, the records were as follows:http://www.iaaf.org/records/by-discipline/race-walks/20-kilometres-race-walk/outdoor/men Records & Lists – Race Walk IAAF 18 August 2015 World recordLiu Hong CHN1:24:38La Coruña, Spain6 June 2015Championship recordOlimpiada Ivanova RUS1:25:41Helsinki, Finland7 August 2005World LeadingLiu Hong CHN1:24:38La Coruña, Spain6 June 2015African RecordGrace Wanjiru KEN1:34:19Nairobi, Kenya1 August 2010Asian RecordLiu Hong CHN1:24:38La Coruña, Spain6 June 2015North, Central American and Caribbean recordMirna Ortiz GUA1:28:31Rio Maior, Portugal6 April 2013South American RecordÉrica de Sena BRA1:29:37Dudince, Slovakia21 March 2015European RecordElena Lashmanova RUS1:25:02London, Great Britain11 August 2012Oceanian recordJane Saville AUS1:27:44Naumburg, Germany2 May 2004 Qualification standards Time 2012 IAAF World Championships Beijing 2015 – Standards http://media.aws.iaaf.org/competitioninfo/544c7d0a-0807-4226-a85b-79928c58a097.pdf IAAF 18 August 2015 1:36:00 Schedule Date Time Round28 August 2015 08:30 Final All times are local times (UTC+8) Results The race was started at 08:30.Final results Rank Name Nationality Time Notes Liu Hong CHN 2015 World 1:27:45 Lü Xiuzhi CHN 2015 World 1:27:45 Lyudmyla Olyanovska UKR 2015 World 1:28:1304 4 Ana Cabecinha POR 2015 World 1:29:2905 5 Antonella Palmisano ITA 2015 World 1:29:3406 6 Érica de Sena BRA 2015 World 1:30:0607 7 Brigita Virbalytė LTU 2015 World 1:30:20PB08 8 Anežka Drahotová CZE 2015 World 1:30:3209 9 Alejandra Ortega MEX 2015 World 1:31:04PB10 María José Poves ESP 2015 World 1:31:06SB11 Nadiya Borovska UKR 2015 World 1:31:1812 Mirna Ortiz GUA 2015 World 1:31:3213 Rachel Seaman CAN 2015 World 1:31:3914 Raquel González ESP 2015 World 1:32:0015 Viktória Madarász HUN 2015 World 1:32:0116 Paola Pérez ECU 2015 World 1:32:1217 Nie Jingjing CHN 2015 World 1:32:4018 Alana Barber NZL 2015 World 1:33:20NR New Zealand19 Sandra Arenas COL 2015 World 1:33:2420 Maria Michta-Coffey USA 2015 World 1:33:2421 Vera Santos POR 2015 World 1:34:0122 Wendy Cornejo BOL 2015 World 1:34:12PB23 Inês Henriques POR 2015 World 1:34:4724 Claudia Ștef ROU 2015 World 1:34:5125 Kumiko Okada JPN 2015 World 1:34:5626 Miranda Melville USA 2015 World 1:35:1927 Jeon Yeong-eun KOR 2015 World 1:35:4828 Maritza Poncio GUA 2015 World 1:35:5329 Cisiane Lopes BRA 2015 World 1:36:0630 Mária Czaková SVK 2015 World 1:36:0831 Émilie Menuet FRA 2015 World 1:36:1732 Laura García-Caro ESP 2015 World 1:36:2233 Laura Polli SUI 2015 World 1:36:26SB34 Rachel Tallent AUS 2015 World 1:36:2735 Lee Jeong-eun KOR 2015 World 1:36:5236 Lucie Pelantová CZE 2015 World 1:38:3437 Khushbir Kaur IND 2015 World 1:38:5338 Agnieszka Dygacz POL 2015 World 1:39:0639 Mayra Herrera GUA 2015 World 1:39:2340 Marie Polli SUI 2015 World 1:39:4941 Mária Gáliková SVK 2015 World 1:40:0642 Olena Shumkina UKR 2015 World 1:41:30 43 Beki Smith AUS 2015 World 9:99:99 DQ 43 Claudia Balderrama BOL 2015 World 9:99:99 DQ 43 Sapana Sapana IND 2015 World 9:99:99 DQ 43 Eleonora Giorgi ITA 2015 World 9:99:99 DQ 43 Elisa Rigaudo ITA 2015 World 9:99:99 DQ 43 Neringa Aidietytė LTU 2015 World 9:99:99 DQ 43 Kimberly García PER 2015 World 9:99:99 DNF 43 Kelly Ruddick AUS 2015 World 9:99:99 DNS References 20 kilometres walk Category:Race walking at the World Athletics Championships
