The Pumas were coached by Bernard A. Hoban, compiled a 5–1–1, and were invited to the 1945 Sun Bowl, where they were defeated by the Southwestern Pirates. This was the first time an American football team had played in a bowl with a team from Mexico, which did not occur again until the 2011 Kilimanjaro Bowl. Despite the Sun Bowl loss, UNAM claimed their 12th consecutive national championship, a streak dating back to 1933.2015-09-12 Team Records Game by Game http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/incomplete_data/game_by_game_foreign.php?teamid=3301&year=1944 2020-08-01 https://web.archive.org/web/20150912202928/http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/incomplete_data/game_by_game_foreign.php?teamid=3301&year=1944 2015-09-12 Schedule w YMCA 25–0 w Mexico Educacion 32–0 t Politécnico 6–6 2015-09-10 Team Records Game by Game http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/incomplete_data/game_by_game_foreign.php?teamid=1967&year=1944 2020-08-01 https://web.archive.org/web/20150910175148/http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/incomplete_data/game_by_game_foreign.php?teamid=1967&year=1944 2015-09-10 w YMCA 14–12 w Mexico Educacion 51–6 November 26 cancelled y South Plains AAF Tech Field Lubbock, TX SPAAF Will Play Mexico University https://www.newspapers.com/article/abilene-reporter-news/122541641/ Abilene Reporter-News Abilene, Texas Associated Press November 12, 1944 9 April 8, 2023 Newspapers.com Mexico U Game Here Sunday Is Cancelled https://www.newspapers.com/article/lubbock-morning-avalanche/122541618/ Lubbock Morning Avalanche Lubbock, Texas November 25, 1944 2 April 8, 2023 Newspapers.com December 16 w Politécnico Mexico City, MX 8–0 1944-12-22 Mexico Will Depend On Gridiron Tricks To Win Bowl Game 16 Arizona Daily Star https://www.newspapers.com/clip/56459413/mexico-will-depend-on-gridiron-tricks/ 2020-07-31 January 1, 1945 y l Southwestern (TX) Kidd Field El Paso, TX Sun Bowl 13,000 0–35 Sun Bowl https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/bowls/sun-bowl.html 2020-07-31 College Football at Sports-Reference.com en1945-01-01 Pirates Arrive For Sun Bowl Battle Today 1 El Paso Times https://www.newspapers.com/clip/56460547/pirates-arrive-for-sun-bowl-battle-today/ 2020-07-31 References UNAM Category:National Autonomous University of Mexico athletics UNAM Pumas American football Category:College football seasons in Mexico
