It was the final year of the original Cosmos playing in the original NASL; they would play three friendlies in 1985 before disbanding. During the 1984 season, the Cosmos finished in third place in the Eastern Division, failing to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 1975. It was also the first season since 1978 that the Cosmos failed to finish first in the overall league table, ending a streak of six premierships. 4 Squad 1 GER GK Hubert Birkenmeier 2 IRN DF Andranik Eskandarian 3 USA DF Dan Canter 4 USA DF Jeff Durgan 5 USA DF Darryl Gee 6 POL DF Wladyslaw Zmuda 7 ITA FW Giuseppe Damiani 8 YUG MF Vladislav Bogićević 9 PAR FW Roberto Cabañas 11 YUG FW Dragan Vujović 12 USA FW Steve Moyers 13 NED MF Johan Neeskens 14 POL FW Stan Terlecki 15 ENG FW Alan Green 16 USA MF Angelo DiBernardo 16 BER FW Randy Horton 17 USA MF Rick Davis 20 RSA FW Andrew Parkinson 21 USA GK David Brcic 22 POR MF Pedro DeBrito 23 USA MF Mike Fox 24 USA DF Kazbek Tambi 25 SCO MF Gerry Gray 27 CAN MF Carmine Marcantonio 28 ECU FW Chico Borja 30 IRL MF Gerry Reardon 31 ITA DF Fernando DeMatthaeis 32 LBR DF Doc Lawson Source:Morrison Dave New York Cosmos 1984 Roster http://nasljerseys.com/Rosters/Cosmos_Rosters.htm NASLJerseys.com January 22, 2013 Transfers In No.Pos.PlayerTransferred From 32 DFCanter, Dan USA Dan CanterUSA Team America 62 DFZmuda, Wlaydslaw POL Władysław ŻmudaITA Hellas Verona 74 FWDamiani, Giuseppe ITA Giuseppe DamianiITA Milan 144 FWTerlecki, Stanislaw POL Stan TerleckiUSA Golden Bay Earthquakes 204 FWParkinson, Andrew RSA Andrew ParkinsonUSA Team America 223 MFDeBrito, Pedro POR Pedro DeBritoUSA Tampa Bay Rowdies 253 MFGray, Gerry SCO Gerry GrayCAN Montreal Manic 273 MFMarcantonio, Carmine CAN Carmine MarcantonioCAN Montreal Manic 284 FWBorja, Chico ECU Chico BorjaUSA Team America 303 MFReardon, Gerry IRE Gerry ReardonUSA Tulsa Roughnecks 322 DFLawson, Doc LBR Doc LawsonUSA New York Arrows Results Source:All-time American soccer statistics SoccerStats.us http://soccerstats.us/teams/new-york-cosmos/1984/ 2020-09-23 soccerstats.us Trans-Atlantic Cup DateOpponentVenueResultAttendanceScorers May 28, 1984 Barcelona H 5–3 37,629 Bogićević, Cabañas, Moyers (2), Neeskens June 3, 1984 Udinese H 4–1 34,158 Terlecki, Vujović, Gray, Green NASL regular season 1984 North American Soccer League season Pld = Games Played, W = Wins, L = Losses, D = Draws, GF = Goals For, GA = Goals Against, Pts = Points 6 points for a win, 3 points for a draw, 0 points for a loss, 1 point for each goal scored (up to three per game).
