The Panthers, coached by Agnus Berenato, were a member of the Big East Conference and played their home games at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Previous season An unusual distribution of players by academic class, with five seniors and six freshmen, but no juniors or sophomores, and three new assistant coaches, resulted in some growing pains for the 2010-11 Pitt women's basketball team, which went 14–17, suffering their first losing season since 2004–05. In the Big East, the team finished with a 5–11 record, finishing as the 12th seed in the Big East tournament. The Panthers won their first round of the tournament to South Florida, but exited the tournament with a 61–65 loss to Marquette, leaving the Panthers without a post-season tournament invitation for the first time since 2005. Offseason The Panthers lost their top four scorers, seniors Taneisha Harrison, Jania Sims, Chelsea Cole, and Shayla Scott, and returned only one starter, Ashlee Anderson, along with five letter winners, while welcoming seven newcomers.http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/college/s_761780.html Pitt embraces its youth Karen Price Pittsburgh Tribune-Review 2011-10-14 2011-10-23 https://archive.today/20120911184321/http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/college/s_761780.html 2012-09-11 dead Composed of six sophomores and six freshmen, with no seniors or juniors, Pitt was the youngest team in NCAA Division 1 for the 2010–11 season.http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11287/1181966-175.stm https://web.archive.org/web/20111019051950/http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11287/1181966-175.stm dead October 19, 2011 Pitt Women: Young squad has tall task Ray Fittipaldo Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Pittsburgh, PA 2011-10-14 2011-10-23 Pitt looked to help replace 74.6% of its scoring, 64.1% of its rebounds, and 75.8% of its assists with its best ever recruiting class,http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/college/s_762984.html Pitt women will learn on the fly this season John Grupp Pittsburgh Tribune-Review 2011-10-21 2011-10-23 https://archive.today/20120906114329/http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/college/s_762984.html 2012-09-06 dead ranked 18th by ESPN's Hoopgurlz,https://www.espn.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/class-rankings?classyear=2011&classmonth=6&rank=18&viewmore=yes 2011 Women's College Basketball Team Recruiting Rankings in Association with HoopGurlz: #18 Pitt ESPN.com June 2011 2011-10-23 along with redshirt sophomore Abby Dowd, who began play with the team after transferring from Buffalo during the previous season.http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/101311aab.html Pitt Women's Basketball Holds Media Day PittsburghPanthers.com 2011-10-13 2010-10-23 October 19, 2011 https://web.archive.org/web/20111019120700/http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/101311aab.html dead http://www.pittsburghmagazine.com/Pittsburgh-Magazine/February-2012/Love-and-Basketball/ Love & Basketball Sean Conboy Pittsburgh Magazine Wiesner Media February 2012 September 11, 2013 Staff moves included moving Meghan Bielich to director of basketball operations and adding David Scarborough as the team's video coordinator.http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/051711aaa.html Pitt Women's Basketball Adds Two to Its Staff PittsburghPanthers.com 2011-05-17 2011-10-23 2012-04-07 https://web.archive.org/web/20120407030220/http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/051711aaa.html dead Assistant coach Patty Coyle was promoted to associate head coach.http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/091611aaa.html Patty Coyle Named Pitt Women's Basketball Associate head coach PittsburghPanthers.com 2011-09-16 2010-10-23 October 18, 2011 https://web.archive.org/web/20111018004333/http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/091611aaa.html dead The women's basketball team entered the season with modest expectations due to their inexperience, and were picked to finish 12th in the Big East Conference in a preseason poll of conference coaches.http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/102011aaa.html Pitt Women's Basketball Selected 12th in Big East Preseason Coaches' Poll PittsburghPanthers.com 2011-10-20 2011-10-23 2012-04-07 https://web.archive.org/web/20120407030231/http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/102011aaa.html dead Recruiting Pitt's 2011 women's recruiting class was ranked 18th by ESPN's Hoopgurlz and 23rd by All-Star Girls Report.http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/111010aab.html Pitt Women's Basketball Inks Top-20 Recruiting Class PittsburghPanthers.com 2010-11-10 2011-10-23 2012-04-07 https://web.archive.org/web/20120407030238/http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/111010aab.html dead 2011 Pitt Recruiting ClassRecruit Position Height High school Hometown ESPN grade Loliya Briggs Guard 5'11 Potter's House Christian Jacksonville, FL 93 Chyna Golden Forward 6'2 Neptune High School Bradley Beach, NJ 92 Brianna Kiesel Point guard 5'7 Thomas R.
