2007 UCI ProTour

Cycling competition 2007 UCI ProTour 3 UCI ProTour March 11 – October 20 Europe 26 Cadel Evans AUS OLO 2007 CSC 2007 Spain 2006 2008 The 2007 UCI ProTour was the third year of the UCI ProTour system. Following a dispute and power struggle between the UCI and the organisers of the Grand Tours, ASO, RCS and Unipublic, a number of events were run as ProTour events, although without ProTour licences. Races counted towards the ProTour standings, although the organisers were not obliged to invite all 20 UCI ProTeams, notably not inviting Unibet.com. After numerous doping scandals in previous years, culminating with Floyd Landis' doping scandal in the 2006 Tour de France, the PHO 2006 team was disbanded when the new title sponsor, iShares, decided to cease sponsoring and pull out of cycling. As of December, 2006, the ProTour license abandoned by Phonak has been granted to the COS 2007, and the Active Bay group of Manolo Saiz has lost its license, which was given to the AST 2007. The links between the ProTour and the organisers of the three Grand Tours (ASO, RCS MediaGroup and Unipublic) remain strained. The 2007 Paris–Nice race was the focus of a dispute between (ASO) and the UCI. ASO have requested that the 2007 edition be downgraded from ProTour status to NE (national calendar status), therefore lacking UCI world-ranking points and threatening the participation of the ProTeams.http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/news.php?id=news/2007/feb07/feb22news2 UCI instructs all ProTour teams to not race Paris–Nice Cyclingnews.com 2007-02-22 2007-02-22 This was resolved to an extent though and Paris–Nice took place as the first ProTour race of the season, although without COS 2007. 2007 ProTour races DatesRaceWinnerProTour leaderMarch 11–18FRA Paris–NiceAlberto Contador ESP (DSC 2007)Alberto Contador ESP (DSC 2007)March 14–20ITA Tirreno–AdriaticoAndreas Klöden GER (AST 2007)March 24ITA Milan–San RemoÓscar Freire ESP (RAB 2007)April 8BEL Tour of FlandersAlessandro Ballan ITA (LAM 2007)April 11BEL Gent–Wevelgem Marcus Burghardt GER (TMO 2007a)Óscar Freire ESP (RAB 2007)April 9–14ESP Vuelta al País Vasco Juan José Cobo ESP (FUJ 2007)April 15FRA Paris–RoubaixStuart O'Grady AUS (SAX 2007)Stuart O'Grady AUS (SAX 2007)April 22NED Amstel Gold Race Stefan Schumacher GER (GST 2007)Davide Rebellin ITA (GST 2007)April 25BEL La Flèche WallonneDavide Rebellin ITA (GST 2007)April 29BEL Liège–Bastogne–LiègeDanilo Di Luca ITA (LIQ 2007)May 1–6SUI Tour de RomandieThomas Dekker NED (RAB 2007)May 21–27ESP Volta a CatalunyaVladimir Karpets RUS (GCE 2007)May 12–June 3ITA Giro d'ItaliaDanilo Di Luca ITA (LIQ 2007)Danilo Di Luca ITA (LIQ 2007)June 10–17FRA Dauphiné LibéréChristophe Moreau FRA (AGR 2007)June 16–24SUI Tour de SuisseVladimir Karpets RUS (GCE 2007)June 24NED TTT EindhovenSAX 2007 July 7–29FRA Tour de FranceAlberto Contador ESP (DSC 2007)August 4ESP Clásica de San SebastiánLeonardo Bertagnolli ITA (LIQ 2007)August 10–18GER Deutschland TourJens Voigt GER (SAX 2007)August 19GER Vattenfall CyclassicsAlessandro Ballan ITA (LAM 2007)August 22–29BEL /NED Eneco Tour of BeneluxIván Gutiérrez ESP (GCE 2007)September 2FRA GP Ouest-FranceThomas Voeckler FRA (BBO 2007)September 1–23ESP Vuelta a EspañaDenis Menchov RUS (RAB 2007)September 9–15POL Tour de PologneJohan Van Summeren BEL (SIL 2007)October 14FRA Paris–ToursAlessandro Petacchi ITA (MRM 2007)October 20ITA Giro di LombardiaDamiano Cunego ITA (LAM 2007)Cadel Evans AUS (SIL 2007) Züri-Metzgete race was scheduled in Switzerland for October 7, but the race was cancelled.
