American college basketball season March 2026 August 2023 Basketball 1914–15 Kent State Normal School Independent 3–2 Alexander Whyte 2nd The 1914–15 Kent State Normal School men's basketball team was the men's basketball team at what is now Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, then known as Kent State Normal School. The men's basketball team scheduled eight games in early 1915 of which five were played, and for the first time the competition included nearby colleges. Three games were played against local club teams, the Maroons of Kent and the Ravenna All-Stars, and all three of these games were victories for Normal. There was not yet an established nickname for teams from the school, and the school colors were the original orange and blue. Alexander Whyte, the campus custodian, served in his second and last year as head coach. Ed. Jerosky served as team captain with Paul R. Swigart as manager. The starting five were Swigart (left guard), Sol Schneider (right guard), Louis Cort (left forward), Jerosky (right forward) and H.K. Carpenter (center).Chestnut Burr 1915 http://www.library.kent.edu/burr/1915 Kent State University Special Collections and Archives 134–35 March 25, 2023 Early basketball games were held in various locations, such as the atrium of the original Administration Building (known as Cartwright Hall since 2006), in the basement of the original heating plant, and in the local Congregational Church gymnasium, as a permanent gymnasium was not built on campus until 1925. http://einside.kent.edu/?type=art&id=267 Extensive Improvements Made to University Auditorium January 24, 2015 Sopko, Jen 2002 eInside Kent State UniversityNormal College Basket Ball November 1915 Kent CourierChestnut Burr 1923 http://www.library.kent.edu/burr/1923 Kent State University Special Collections and Archives 96 January 24, 2015Chestnut Burr 1925 http://www.library.kent.edu/burr/1925 Kent State University Special Collections and Archives 161 January 24, 2015 Schedule and results no no no FridayJanuary 22, 1915 yes no Otterbein 5–56https://newspaperarchive.com/sports-clipping-jan-23-1915-3845615/ Basketball Results Newark Advocate January 23, 1915 6 newspaperarchive.com April 17, 2023https://www.newspapers.com/article/akron-evening-times-otterbein-smothered/123070887/ Otterbein smothered Kent State Normal Akron Evening Times January 23, 1915 5 newspapers.com April 17, 2023 0–1 Kent, OH FridayJanuary 29, 1915 yes no Kent Maroons 24–19 1–1 Kent, OH FridayFebruary 5, 1915 yes no Kent Maroons 27–23 2–1 Kent, OH ThursdayFebruary 11, 1915 yes no Muskingum 18–54 2–2 Kent, OH TuesdayFebruary 16, 1915 yes no Hiram cancelled c 2–2 Kent, OH TuesdayFebruary 23, 1915 yes no Ravenna All-Stars 28–11 3–2 Kent, OH FridayFebruary 26, 1915 yes no Ohio Northern cancelled c 3–2 Kent, OH ThursdayMarch 4, 1915 yes no Wittenberg cancelled 3–2 c Kent, OH no Sources2022–23 Men's Basketball Record Book https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/sidearm.nextgen.sites/kentstatesports.com/documents/2022/10/26/2022-23_MBB_Record_Book.pdf 2022 Kent State University B7 March 24, 2023 See also List of Kent State Golden Flashes men's basketball seasons References Category:Kent State Golden Flashes men's basketball seasons Kent State Kent State Kent State
