1998 World Grand Prix 14–18 October 1998 Casino Rooms Rochester, England Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) Sets"double in, double out" £38,000 £9,000 Phil Taylor ENG 1999 The 1998 World Grand Prix was a darts tournament organised by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and held at the Casino Rooms in Rochester, England from 14 to 18 October 1998. It was the first year of the tournament and replaced the World Pairs tournament, which ran from 1995 to 1997. The tournament was formatted unusually, in that players had to start each leg by hitting a double, in addition to the traditional double to finish. It also featured the "best of three" legs per set format, rather than five, for the first and only time in the tournament's history. The "best of three" format was usually associated with BDO events such as the World Masters. Phil Taylor took the inaugural title, beating world number one, Rod Harrington in the final.Darts World Grand Prix 1998 Scores https://www.darts24.com/world/world-grand-prix-1998/ 2022-06-10 www.darts24.com en Seeds There were four seeds for the event.World Grand Prix 1998 – Bracket https://mastercaller.com/tournaments/world-grand-prix/1998/bracket Mastercaller 6 February 2024 ENG Rod Harrington ENG Alan Warriner ENG Phil Taylor ENG Peter Manley Prize money Position (num. of players) Prize money(Total: £38,000)1998 World Grand Prix Player Prize Money http://www.dartsdatabase.co.uk/EventResultsPrize.aspx?EventKey=259 Darts Database 6 February 2024 https://web.archive.org/web/20160201133516/http://www.dartsdatabase.co.uk/EventResultsPrize.aspx?EventKey=259 1 February 2016 deadWinner (1) £9,000Runner-Up (1) £5,000Semi-finalists (2) £3,000Quarter-finalists (4) £2,000First round losers (8) £1,250 Results Players in bold denote match winners. Results of World Grand Prix 1998 https://mastercaller.com/tournaments/world-grand-prix/1998/results Mastercaller 6 February 20241998 World Grand Prix Results http://www.dartsdatabase.co.uk/EventResults.aspx?EventKey=259 Darts Database 16 October 2012 https://web.archive.org/web/20121016010955/http://www.dartsdatabase.co.uk/EventResults.aspx?EventKey=259 16 October 2012 dead First round (best of 21 sets)14–15 October Quarter-finals (best of 21 sets)16 October Semi-finals (best of 21 sets)17 October Final (best of 25 sets)18 October 200 1 ENG Rod Harrington 83.83 11 ENG Mick Manning 74.23 5   ENG Graeme Stoddart 83.50 11 SGP Paul Lim 79.56 4 4 ENG Peter Manley 85.77 11 ENG Peter Evison 76.86 5 ENG Keith Deller 76.35 9   ENG Dennis Priestley 79.33 11 2 ENG Alan Warriner 82.41 7 ENG Shayne Burgess 89.76 11   USA Gary Mawson 81.89 11 ENG Bob Anderson 84.36 10 3 ENG Phil Taylor 97.08 11 USA Steve Brown 80.12 2   ENG John Lowe 83.30 11 CAN John Part 80.00 5 1 ENG Rod Harrington 86.46 11 ENG Graeme Stoddart 78.29 5 4 ENG Peter Manley 85.82 11 ENG Dennis Priestley 82.80 8   ENG Shayne Burgess 87.89 11 USA Gary Mawson 81.85 4 3 ENG Phil Taylor 92.96 11 ENG John Lowe 77.70 4 1 ENG Rod Harrington 87.63 11 4 ENG Peter Manley 87.75 8 ENG Shayne Burgess 90.68 2 3 ENG Phil Taylor 95.63 11 1 ENG Rod Harrington 86.64 8 3 ENG Phil Taylor 94.61 13 References Category:World Grand Prix (darts) World Grand Prix Darts Category:Sport in Kent Category:Rochester, Kent Category:October 1998 sports events in the United Kingdom Category:1998 in English sport Category:1990s in Kent
