Billy Slater would have won the award had it not been for a one-week suspension for an on-field fight that occurred late in the season which deducted three votes from his tally. Some experts called for a change in the rules claiming he deserved the award for being the best player that season despite the suspension but this never eventuated.Peter Cassidy Macquarie National News Matt Orford beats Slater, Smith to win Dally M http://www.livenews.com.au/articles/2008/09/09/Manlys_Matt_Orford_wins_NRL_Dally_M_medal 24 Nov 2008 10 September 2008 https://web.archive.org/web/20080912142220/http://www.livenews.com.au/Articles/2008/09/09/Manlys_Matt_Orford_wins_NRL_Dally_M_medal 12 September 2008 dead dmy-all AwardPlayerClubProvan-Summons MedalNathan HindmarshParramatta EelsRookie of the YearChris SandowSouth Sydney RabbitohsCaptain of the YearAlan TongueCanberra RaidersRep Player of the YearGreg InglisMelbourne StormCoach of the YearNeil HenryCanberra RaidersTop Tryscorer of the YearBrett StewartManly Sea Eagles (22)Top Pointscorer of the YearLuke CovellCronulla-Sutherland Sharks (206)Toyota Cup Player of the YearBen HuntBrisbane Broncos Team of the Year AwardPlayerClubBest FullbackBilly SlaterMelbourne StormBest WingerColin BestCanberra RaidersBest CentreIsrael FolauMelbourne StormBest Five-EighthGreg InglisMelbourne StormBest HalfbackMatt OrfordManly Sea EaglesBest LockAlan TongueCanberra RaidersBest Second-RowerGlenn StewartManly Sea EaglesBest PropPetero CivonicevaPenrith PanthersBest HookerCameron SmithMelbourne Storm See also Dally M Awards Dally M Medal National Rugby League season 2008 Footnotes Dally M Awards Dally M Awards Category:Dally M Awards
