In January 1914, a questionnaire regarding a possible conference was sent out to the larger institutions in Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Only Texas A&M failed to express an opinion; all other schools were positive. "No school should be omitted that hasn't the money to keep itself going and be able to play members of the association", Baylor representative C.A. Ganti replied. "This we could not do." In late April and early May, eight institutions met to create the Southwest Conference, to which Baylor was invited and did become a charter member in December of that year.http://newspaperarchive.com/Viewer.aspx?img=81162982&currentResult=7 7 1914-03-01 2009-11-12 The San Antonio Light Conference Seems to be Assured Fact Baylor did not adopt a mascot (the Baylor Bears) until December 14, 1914, after the completion of the 1914 football season.http://www.baylor.edu/bear/index.php?id=18243 Mascot History Baylor University 2009-11-03 https://web.archive.org/web/20090310173528/http://www.baylor.edu/bear/index.php?id=18243 2009-03-10 dead Schedule October 3 w 1914 Howard Payne Yellow Jackets Howard Payne Carroll Field Waco, TX 9–0 https://www.newspapers.com/article/fort-worth-record-telegram-baylor-fights/168691921/ Fort Worth Record Baylor fights hard for first victory October 4, 1914 March 23, 2025 Newspapers.com October 10 l y Texas Clark Field Austin, TX rivalry 0–57 Score 57 to 0 in Texas-Baylor Game The Austin Daily Statesman October 11, 1914 3 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/58629686/score-57-to-0-in-texas-baylor-game/ Newspapers.com October 17 l y 1914 Trinity Tigers Trinity (TX) Fair Ground Field Dallas, TX 0–7 https://www.newspapers.com/article/fort-worth-star-telegram-baylor-drops-ha/168692122/ Fort Worth Star-Telegram Baylor drops hard game to Trinity team October 18, 1914 March 23, 2025 Newspapers.com October 23 t y 1914 Austin Kangaroos Austin Luckett Park Sherman, TX 0–0 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-houston-post-baylor-tied-ausin-colle/168692347/ Houston Daily Post Baylor tied Austin College October 24, 1914 March 23, 2025 Newspapers.com October 26 l y Oklahoma A&M Lewis Field Stillwater, OK 0–60 Farmers Wallop Baylor's Eleven https://www.newspapers.com/clip/83153524/the-daily-oklahoman/ The Daily Oklahoman Oklahoma City, Oklahoma October 27, 1914 6 August 10, 2021 Newspapers.com October 31 w TCU Carroll Field Waco, TX rivalry 28–14 The Baylor Eleven A Come-back https://www.newspapers.com/clip/83372083/the-houston-post/ Houston Post Houston, Texas November 1, 1914 18 August 13, 2021 Newspapers.com November 6 l 1914 Daniel Baker Hill Billies Daniel Baker Carroll Field Waco, TX 14–0 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-austin-american-baylor-wins-from-dan/168692555/ The Austin American Baylor wins from Daniel Baker, 14–0 November 7, 1914 March 23, 2025 Newspapers.com November 14 t Trinity (TX) Carroll Field Waco, TX 0–0 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-waco-times-herald-baylor-trinity-gam/168692740/ Waco Daily Times-Herald Baylor Trinity game scoreless affair November 15, 1914 March 23, 2025 Newspapers.com November 20 l y Rice Rice Field Houston, TX 13–14 https://www.newspapers.com/article/tulsa-world-failure-to-kick-an-easy-goal/168691684/ The Tulsa Daily World Failure to kick an easy goal cost game November 21, 1914 March 23, 2025 Newspapers.com November 26 l 1914 Southwestern Pirates Southwestern (TX) Carroll Field Waco, TX 6–7 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-galveston-daily-news-methodists-triu/168692900/ The Galveston Daily News Methodists triumph by a point at Waco November 27, 1914 March 23, 2025 Newspapers.com References Baylor Category:Baylor Bears football seasons Baylor Bears football
