The system to be replaced was established in 1924 as Arkansas' first comprehensive highway plan.McLaren, Christie. "Arkansas Highway History and Architecture, 1910-1965." Roads were designated as "primary federal aid roads", "secondary federal aid roads", or "connecting state roads". The Arkansas State Highway Commission implemented the system of United States Numbered Highways also around 1926, and thus Arkansas decided to number its highways and to drop the 1924 letter-number format. This resulted in the first true numbering of state highways in Arkansas. The U.S. route designations 61, 63, 64, 65, 67, 70, 71, 165, and 167 would have conflicted with state highway designations, so there were no Arkansas state highways with these numbers. The highest number was 115, with 116 and up reserved for future use. 1924 designation meaning A1-A9 Primary federal aid roads B1-B43 Secondary federal aid roads C1-C46 Connecting state roads 1926 routes New designationFromTo001 State Road 1McGeheeNear Corning002 State Road 2TexarkanaLeland003 State Road 3LouisianaCunningham Corner004 State Road 4OklahomaArkansas City005 State Road 5North Little RockMissouri006 State Road 6Y CityPine Bluff007 State Road 7CamdenHarrison008 State Road 8OklahomaEudora009 State Road 9CamdenMammoth Spring010 State Road 10GreenwoodLittle Rock011 State Road 11PansyHardy012 State Road 12OklahomaAsh Flat013 State Road 13LouisianaNear Pine Bluff014 State Road 14OmahaNear Marked Tree015 State Road 15LouisianaEngland016 State Road 16Near Siloam SpringsMarion017 State Road 17Indian BayNewport018 State Road 18DiazBarfield019 State Road 19LouisianaDelight020 State Road 20Near MonroeMississippi River near Westover021 State Road 21Near ClarksvilleMissouri022 State Road 22Fort SmithDardanelle023 State Road 23WaldronOak Hill024 State Road 24LockesburgCamden025 State Road 25WoosterMissouri026 State Road 26DierksNear Arkadelphia027 State Road 27Ben LomondHarriet028 State Road 28OklahomaOla029 State Road 29LouisianaBlevins030 State Road 30Near Little RockDe Witt031 State Road 31Near SherrillBeebe032 State Road 32OklahomaNear Fulton033 State Road 33Near RoeTupelo034 State Road 34Near Walnut RidgePiggott035 State Road 35Gaines LandingBenton036 State Road 36HamletSearcy037 State Road 37McCroryGrubbs038 State Road 38DesarcCotton Plant039 State Road 39ParagouldSaint Francis040 State Road 40Marked TreeOsceola041 State Road 41De QueenTexas042 State Road 42Near ParkinBeedeville043 State Road 43MissouriBoxley044 State Road 44Near GillettNear Helena045 State Road 45Near HindsvilleOklahoma046 State Road 46Near TulipPrattsville047 State Road 47RogersMissouri048 State Road 48Near TulipFerindale049 State Road 49Near HelenaElaine050 State Road 50WidenerChatfield051 State Road 51Arkadelphianear Prescott052 State Road 52Near BerlinEmpire053 State Road 53GurdonBluff City054 State Road 54DumasBack Gate055 State Road 55Mineral SpringsFulton056 State Road 56HedgesAsh Flat057 State Road 57DonaldsonNear Mount Holly058 State Road 58Near MelbourneWilliford059 State Road 59EudoraLouisiana060 State Road 60PerryvilleNear Beebe062 State Road 62Near Mammoth SpringNear Paragould066 State Road 66LeslieMountain View068 State Road 68SpringdaleNear Marble069 State Road 69MelbourneBatesville072 State Road 72BentonvilleNear Eureka Springs073 State Road 73AllbrookHope074 State Road 74WinslowCrosses075 State Road 75TurrellNear Widener076 State Road 76OnyxNear Ava077 State Road 77MissouriAthelstan078 State Road 78WheatleyNear Moro079 State Road 79MissouriCave City080 State Road 80OklahomaNear Prairie Grove081 State Road 81Near McArthurArkansas City082 State Road 82Near Lodge CornerDe Witt083 State Road 83MonticelloUniversity of Arkansas at Monticello084 State Road 84KirbyPerla085 State Road 85BartonLake View086 State Road 86OklahomaGillham087 State Road 87BradfordPleasant Plains088 State Road 88OklahomaMena089 State Road 89CabotLonoke090 State Road 90Near RectorMissouri091 State Road 91Near Walnut RidgeNear Jonesboro092 State Road 92Near SpringfieldPlumerville093 State Road 93MissouriDalton094 State Road 94RogersSpring Valley095 State Road 95ClintonMorrilton096 State Road 96GreenwoodBloomer097 State Road 97Walnut RidgeNear Walnut Ridge098 State Road 98AltusRoseville099 State Road 99SummersOklahoma100 State Road 100US 71 in BentonvilleRoute 88 at the Missouri state line101 State Road 101HendersonMissouri102 State Road 102GravetteMaysville103 State Road 103Near Sand GapWestern Grove104 State Road 104Pine BluffSulphur Springs105 State Road 105Near HectorAtkins106 State Road 106GregoryGrays107 State Road 107GravetteGentry108 State Road 108JacksonvilleNear Jacksonville109 State Road 109Near OzarkMagazine110 State Road 110BotkinburgShirley111 State Road 111Near AlexanderAlexander112 State Road 112FayettevilleTontitown113 State Road 113PoyenLeola114 State Road 114Near MeroneyGould115 State Road 115ThorntonEl Dorado See also List of state highways in Arkansas References Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, Historic Arkansas Tourist Maps, especially the 1926 maps Renumbering 1926 Arkansas State Highway Renumbering, 1926 State Highway numbering, 1926
