It is possible another team has played in this round, however, that would be difficult to find out. Since 31 professional and eight amateur clubs are first mentioned in the group stage, it is possible one of those clubs actually already played in the preliminary round.VV DOVO2–1FC LisseYoung sc Heerenveen1–5Quick BoysIJsselmeervogels1–0 (aet)SV PanningenVV Hoogezand5–2RKFC LindenheuvelVV Sneek2–2 (p)RKSV WittenhorstQuick '202–3Kozakken Boys (on June 15) Home teamResult Away teamYoung Sparta4–1DCVAFC '343–3 (p)GVVVVV Bennekom3–1DOS KampenVV Gemert2–4De Treffers VV Katwijk2–0ACVAchilles Veen1–1 (p)AFCRKSV Halsteren8–1FVCRIOS '313–0VV SittardDCV2–6FC Den Bosch Group stage The matches of the group stage were played between August 15 and October 1, 1996.
