The game started late due to the absence of a referee, and heavy rain caused the game to be called on account of darkness with Yale leading 4–0 in the second half. Under the rules of the time, the game was declared "no contest" by the substitute referee, and the final score was declared to be 0–0. After a special meeting of the Intercollegiate Football Association held to review the game, the Association issued a two-part resolution: that (1) Yale should have been acknowledged the winner, but that (2) under their existing rules, the Association did not have the authority to award the game to them.https://www.nytimes.com/1886/11/28/archives/no-football-champions-but-princeton-challenges-yale-to-another-game.html The New York Times No Football Champions.; But Princeton Challenges Yale To Another Game On Saturday November 28, 1886 Schedule October 9 w Stevens Princeton College grounds Princeton, NJ 58–0 Football At Princeton https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98295120/the-new-york-times/ The New York Times New York, New York October 10, 1886 1 March 24, 2022 Newspapers.com October 13 w y Stevens St. George's Cricket Grounds Hoboken, NJ 61–0 300 Princeton Wins Easily https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98294766/the-new-york-times/ The New York Times New York, New York October 14, 1886 8 March 24, 2022 Newspapers.com October 16 w Penn Princeton, NJ rivalry 30–0 Victories At Football https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98295260/the-new-york-times/ The New York Times New York, New York October 17, 1886 1 March 24, 2022 Newspapers.com October 23 3:40 p.m. w y Penn University Athletic Grounds Philadelphia, PA 55–9 College Foot-Ball https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98295415/the-philadelphia-times/ The Times Philadelphia, Pennsylvania October 23, 1886 2 March 24, 2022 Newspapers.com Princeton Wins Easily https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98295634/the-philadelphia-times/ The Times Philadelphia, Pennsylvania October 24, 1886 7 March 24, 2022 Newspapers.com November 6 3:10 p.m. w y Penn University Athletic Grounds Philadelphia, PA 28–6 1,500 Good Foot-Ball https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98295861/the-philadelphia-times/ The Times Philadelphia, Pennsylvania November 7, 1886 2 March 24, 2022 Newspapers.com November 13 2:30 p.m. w Harvard Princeton, NJ rivalry 12–0 Winning A Second Victory The New York Times November 14, 1886 9 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/15324561/winning_a_second_victory/ November 20 3:00 p.m. w y 1886 Wesleyan Methodists Wesleyan Hartford, CT 70–6 Princeton's Third Victory https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98296117/the-boston-globe/ The Boston Sunday Globe Boston, Massachusetts November 21, 1886 4 March 24, 2022 Newspapers.com Princeton Men Sad https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98296309/the-new-york-times/ The New York Times New York, New York November 21, 1886 9 March 24, 2022 Newspapers.com November 25 3:30 p.m. t Yale Princeton, NJ rivalry 0–0 > 6,000 Yale Outplays Princeton: Weather Bad and Tempers Worse Make Trouble The New York Times November 26, 1886 5 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/15025976/yale-outplays-princeton/ Newspapers.com Roster Knowlton Ames Black Church Cook Hector Cowan William George Hirst H.
