The game started late due to the absence of a referee, and heavy rain caused the game to be called on account of darkness with Yale leading 4–0 in the second half. Under the rules of the time, the game was declared "no contest" by the substitute referee, and the final score was declared to be 0–0. After a special meeting of the Intercollegiate Football Association held to review the game, the Association issued a two-part resolution: that (1) Yale should have been acknowledged the winner, but that (2) under their existing rules, the Association did not have the authority to award the game to them.https://www.nytimes.com/1886/11/28/archives/no-football-champions-but-princeton-challenges-yale-to-another-game.html The New York Times No Football Champions.; But Princeton Challenges Yale To Another Game On Saturday November 28, 1886 Schedule October 6 w 1886 Wesleyan Methodists Wesleyan Yale Field New Haven, CT 75–0 October 9 w y Wesleyan Middletown, CT 62–0 October 16 w Boston Tech Yale Field New Haven, CT 96–0 The Yale Foot-Ball Team Betas the Techs https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-springfield-daily-republican/199912016/ Springfield Republican Springfield, Massachusetts October 17, 1886 1 June 19, 2026 Newspapers.com October 20 w y Stevens Hoboken, NJ 54–0 Yale 54—Stevens 0 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98297935/the-morning-journal-courier/ New Haven Daily Morning Journal and Courier New Haven, Connecticut October 21, 1886 3 March 24, 2022 Newspapers.com October 23 w y Williams Williamstown, MA 76–0 College Foot-ball Games.—The Yale Eleven Beats the Williams Team Badly https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-springfield-daily-republican/199916465/ Springfield Republican Springfield, Massachusetts October 24, 1886 1 June 19, 2026 Newspapers.com October 30 w Wesleyan Yale Field New Haven, CT 136–0 Beating the Record: Yale's Giants Score 136 Points Against the Wesleyan The Boston Globe October 31, 1886 6 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98273403/beating-the-record-yales-giants-score/ Newspapers.comYale Wins the First Game: She Easily Defeats the Wesleyan Football Team The New York Times October 31, 1886 14 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98273346/yale-wins-the-first-game-she-easily/ Newspapers.com November 2 w y Crescent Athletic Club Polo Grounds New York, NY 82–0 Brooklyn Against Yale: The College Boys Prove Themselves Superior at Football The Brooklyn Daily Eagle November 3, 1886 4 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/51572900/brooklyn-against-yale/ Newspapers.com November 13 w Penn Yale Field New Haven, CT 75–0 Yale Defeats Pennsylvania The New York Times November 14, 1886 7 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/2063230/yale-beats-penn-navy-beats-johns/ Newspapers.com November 20 2:30 p.m. w y Harvard Jarvis Field Cambridge, MA rivalry 29–4 > 6,000 Again Yale Wins: Harvard's Eleven Out-played by the Veterans The Boston Globe November 21, 1886 4 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98273151/again-yale-wins-harvards-eleven/ Newspapers.comHarvard Beaten By Yale The New York Times November 21, 1886 9 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/15324506/harvard_beaten_by_yale/ Newspapers.com November 25 3:30 p.m. t y Princeton Princeton, NJ rivalry 0–0 > 6,000 Yale Outplays Princeton: Weather Bad and Tempers Worse Make Trouble The New York Times November 26, 1886 5 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/15025976/yale-outplays-princeton/ Newspapers.com Roster Harry Beecher, QB James J.
