The National League scored two runs in the bottom of the tenth inning to win 5–4. Stu Miller was the winning pitcher and Hoyt Wilhelm was charged with the loss. This was the first of two all-star games in 1961. From 1959 to 1962, two such were held each season to increase the money going to the players' pension fund. This practice ended after the owners agreed to give the players a larger share of the income from a single game.Sandomir Richard Richard Sandomir When Midsummer Had Two Classics https://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/15/sports/baseball/15sandomir.html 8 June 2022 The New York Times 15 July 2008 https://web.archive.org/web/20220324121059/https://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/15/sports/baseball/15sandomir.html 24 March 2022 live en Rosters Players in italics have since been inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
