Led by sixth-year head coach Jim Sweeney, Fresno State finished the season with an overall record of 6–5 and a mark of 2–4 in conference play, placing sixth place in the PCAA. The Bulldogs played their home games at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, California. After the 1984 season, it was discovered that the UNLV Rebels had used multiple ineligible players during both the 1983 and 1984 seasons. As a result, UNLV's win in 1983 over Fresno State was forfeited, adjusting the Bulldogs' record to 7–4 overall and 3–3 in conference play, moving them into a tie for third place in the PCAA.https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1985-03-13-sp-22150-story.html UNLV Punished for Using Ineligible Football Players Los Angeles Times 13 March 1985 December 22, 2016 Schedule September 10 l y Bowling Green Bulldog Stadium Fresno, CA 27–35 30,000 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-fresno-bee-falcons-take-revenge-agai/166462147/ The Fresno Bee Falcons take revenge against 'Dogs September 11, 1983 February 22, 2025 Newspapers.com September 17 w y Nevada Bulldog Stadium Fresno, CA 24–22 27,705 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-fresno-bee-dogs-hit-jackpot-in-fina/158766539/ The Fresno Bee 'Dogs hit jackpot in final 9 seconds September 18, 1983 February 22, 2025 Newspapers.comSouthland Summaries The Los Angeles Times Los Angeles, California September 18, 1983 III-14 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/9986356/southland_19830918/ Newspapers.com April 1, 2017 September 24 w y Pacific (CA) Pacific Memorial Stadium Stockton, CA 34–14 16,234 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-modesto-bee-fresno-state-gridders-sp/166462418/ The Modesto Bee Fresno State gridders spoil UOP home opener September 25, 1983 February 22, 2025 Newspapers.comSaturday's College Football The Los Angeles Times Los Angeles, California September 26, 1983 III-12 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/9986396/saturdays_college_football_19830926/ Newspapers.com April 2, 2017 October 1 l y Utah State Romney Stadium Logan, UT 12–20 10,179 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-salt-lake-tribune-aggies-belt-fresno/166439989/ The Salt Lake Tribune Aggies belt Fresno for Pella's first victory October 2, 1983 February 22, 2025 Newspapers.com October 8 l San Jose State Bulldog Stadium Fresno, CA rivalry 23–41 35,000 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-san-francisco-examiner-johnson-boost/166462577/ The San Francisco Examiner Johnson boosts SJS past Fresno October 9, 1983 February 22, 2025 Newspapers.com October 15 w y y Montana State Reno H.
