Elections to Trafford Council were held on Thursday, 1 May 1980. One third of the council was up for election, with each successful candidate to serve a four-year term of office, expiring in 1984. Boundary changes were implemented for these elections, however, these changes were not sufficient for the whole council to be re-elected."Shock for Tories in Village", Altrincham Guardian, May 9, 1980 p.7. The Conservative Party retained overall control of the council."Trafford M. B. C. Election Results Sheet, 2 May 1980", Trafford M.B.C.(1980).
