the Adelaide Convention Centre. For the first time, live bidding occurred during the draft for selections made under the father–son rule and from the northern state's development academies, whereby each draft selection is allocated a points value. Clubs nominating a player were forced to use their existing draft selections to match the points value of the pick used by the club bidding for the player.http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-05-21/new-bidding-system-introduced-for-fatherson-and-northern-academy-players New bidding system for father-sons, academies Twomey Callum 21 May 2015 AFL.com.au Telstra Media 31 October 2015http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-10-02/clubs-to-test-technology-in-mock-draft Clubs to test live-bidding calculator in 'mock draft' Twomey Callum 2 October 2015 AFL.com.au Telstra Media 5 October 2015 y y y y y y Final draft orderhttps://web.archive.org/web/20151121175457/http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-11-20/indicative-draft-order-your-clubs-provisional-picks-as-trade-period-unfolds 21 November 2015 http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-11-20/indicative-draft-order-your-clubs-provisional-picks-as-trade-period-unfolds Final draft order: Which picks is your club taking to this year's draft? 20 November 2015 AFL.com.au Telstra Media 22 November 2015 Draft-eve selection order, club by club, and points value of each pickRoundPickPoints Points from the AFL draft value indexClubNotes 1 1 3000 1 2 2517 1 3 2234 Traded from 1 4 2034 1 5 1878 Traded by StK 1 6 1751 Traded from 1 7 1644 Traded from ; The picks can be held for up to five years and clubs declare at the beginning of the season of their intent to utilise the pick at the end of the season. Picks could be traded to other clubs in return for players or other draft selections. Free agency compensation picks are additional selections awarded to teams based on their net loss of players during the free agency trade period. Academy players are local zone selections available to the four NSW and Queensland clubs. Both academy and father-son selections are subject to a bidding process, where the club with the family or academy connection must match any opposition club's bid with their next available selection. Rookie elevations Clubs were able to promote any player who was listed on their rookie list in 2015 to their 2016 primary playing list prior to the draft. In total, 14 players were promoted.http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-11-08/your-clubs-ins-and-outs-all-the-2015-trades-delistings-and-retirements Your club's ins and outs: All the 2015 trades, delistings and retirements 8 November 2015 AFL.com.au Telstra Media 17 November 2015 Player Club Jake Kelly Australian footballer Jack Frost footballer, born 1992 Shaun McKernan Ethan Hughes Michael Luxford Adam Saad Keegan Brooksby Kurt Heatherley Aaron vandenBerg James Harmes Sam Gray footballer, born 1992 PA Kane Lambert Jack Sinclair footballer StK Sam Naismith 2016 rookie draft The 2016 AFL rookie draft was held on 27 November 2015.
