1986–87 Luton Town F.C. season

English football club season February 2015 February 2015 Luton Town F.C. 1986–87 John Moore David Evans Kenilworth Road First Division 7th FA Cup Fourth round Mike Newell and Brian Stein (13) 1985–86 1987–88 During the 1986–87 English football season, Luton Town F.C. competed in the Football League First Division and finished seventh, the best league position in the club's history to date. Season summary Manager David Pleat had left Luton at the end of the previous season to become manager of Tottenham Hotspur, and was replaced by former Luton defender John Moore. Under Moore, Luton enjoyed one of the best seasons in their history, finishing in seventh, their highest-ever placing in the top flight. However, Moore resigned at the end of the season, claiming he did not feel management was the right career for him. He was replaced by his assistant manager Ray Harford. Perhaps the only negative of the season was Luton being banned from competing in the League Cup due to the club's controversial scheme, introduced by chairman David Evans, to only admit club members and refusal to admit away fans. Kit Luton retained the kit worn by the club for the previous two seasons, manufactured by German apparel manufacturers Adidas and sponsored by Bedford.http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Luton_Town/Luton_Town.htm Luton Town - Historical Football Kits Squad y y ENG GK Les Sealey y WAL GK Andy Dibble y ENG DF Tim Breacker y ENG DF Steve Foster y ENG DF Marvin Johnson y ENG DF Rob Johnson y ENG DF Stacey North y NIR DF Mal Donaghy y ENG MF Kingsley BlackBlack was born in Luton, England, but qualified to represent Northern Ireland internationally and would make his international debut for Northern Ireland in 1988. y ENG MF Gary Cobb y ENG MF Ricky Hill y y ENG MF Darron McDonoughMcDonough was born in Antwerp, Belgium, but was raised in Greater Manchester, England. y ENG MF David OldfieldOldfield was born in Perth, Australia, but qualified to represent England internationally as he was raised there.
