It was officially known as the University of Maryland's College for Negroes at Princess Anne and had previously been known as Maryland's Agricultural and Mechanical College for Negroes, though it had been commonly referred to as Princess Anne College. In 1948, the school's president, Dr. J. T. Williams, discarded the "Princess Anne College" name because "people thought it might be a girl's finishing school . . . it embarrassed the football team."Buildings Give New Life To Shore Negro College The Baltimore Sun Burke Davis December 9, 1948 31 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/41169134/buildings_give_new_life_to_shore_negro/ Newspapers.com Schedule y y September 27 at 1947 Elizabeth City State Vikings Elizabeth City State Elizabeth City, NC W 20-0 October 4 1947 St. Augustine's Falcons St. Augustine's Wicomico High School bowl Salisbury, MD W 20-12 600 Princess Anne Negro Eleven Wins 20-12 The Salisbury Times October 6, 1947 11 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/41177465/princess_anne_negro_eleven_wins_2012/ Newspapers.com October 11 at Bordentown Institute Bordentown, NJ W 24-14 Princess Anne Gridders Beat Bordentown, 24-14 Wilmington Morning News October 13, 1947 12 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/41174966/princess_anne_gridders_beat_bordentown/ Newspapers.com October 18 at Storer Harper's Ferry, WV W 54-0 Princess Anne College Wins From Storer, 54-0 The Salisbury Times October 20, 1947 8 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/41178045/princess_anne_college_wins_from_storer/ Newspapers.com October 25 1947 Fayetteville State Broncos Fayetteville State<hc> Princess Anne Stadium Princess Anne, MD W 7-0 Princess Anne Gridders Beat Fayetteville, 7-0 Wilmington Morning News October 27, 1947 14 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/41175809/princess_anne_gridders_beat/ Newspapers.com November 1 at 1947 Cheyney Wolves Cheyney West Chester, PA W 7-0 Princess Anne College Defeats Cheyney, 7-0 The Philadelphia Inquirer November 2, 1947 4S https://www.newspapers.com/clip/41178244/princess_anne_college_defeats_cheyney/ Newspapers.com November 15 1947 Livingstone Blue Bears Livingstone Princess Anne Stadium Princess Anne, MD W 39-0 Princess Anne Wins 7th Game In Row The Baltimore Sun November 16, 1947 Sports 4 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/41176687/princess_anne_wins_7th_game_in_row/ Newspapers.com November 23 1947 Norfolk State Baby Trojans Norfolk State Princess Anne Stadium Princess Anne, MD W 31-6 Princess Anne Wins, 31-6, for Unbeaten Year The Philadelphia Inquirer November 23, 1947 4S https://www.newspapers.com/clip/41174815/princess_anne_wins_316_for_unbeaten/ Newspapers.com References Princess Anne Category:Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks football seasons Category:College football undefeated seasons Princess Anne Trojans football
