Led by second year head coach Billy Donovan, the Herd finished with a final record of 17–11. Their second round elimination in the Southern Conference tournament led to the team not receiving an invitation to the NCAA tournament for the ninth consecutive year. After the season, however, Donovan left Marshall to accept a job as the new head coach of Florida, whom he would lead to national championships in 2006 and 2007. Following his tenure at Florida, which would end in 2015, Donovan would become the head coach of the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder.https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/marshall/1996.html 1995-96 Marshall Thundering Herd Roster and Stats - College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com College Basketball at Sports-Reference.comhttps://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/marshall/1996-schedule.html 1995-96 Marshall Thundering Herd Schedule and Results - College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com Roster 1995 Marshall Thundering Herd y Chad Barry C 6 6 SR John Brannen basketball y F JR John Brown C SO Sidney Coles G 6 6 JR Chris Gray G SO Carlton King F 6 5 FR Frank Lee G 6 1 FR Refiloe Lethunya F 6 8 FR Keith Veney y G 6 2 JR Jason Williams basketball, born 1975 y G 6 1 FR Billy Donovan Anthony Grant John Pelphrey Donnie Jones Schedule and results no yes no no |- !colspan=8| Regular season |- Nov 25, 1995 yes Milligan Cam Henderson Center Huntington, WV 124–71 1–0 Nov 28, 1995 yes Chattanooga McKenzie Arena Chattanooga, TN 95–86 2–0 Dec 2, 1995 yes yes Kansas State Bramlage Coliseum Manhattan, KS 88–106 2–1 Dec 8, 1995 yes yes Morehead State Ellis Johnson Arena Morehead, KY 92–85 3–1 Dec 10, 1995 yes Butler Cam Henderson Center Huntington, WV 92–102 3–2 Dec 15, 1995 yes Louisiana–Lafayette Cam Henderson Center Huntington, WV 77–70 4–2 Dec 19, 1995 yes yes Kentucky 4 Freedom Hall Louisville, KY 99–118 4–3 Dec 23, 1995 yes Radford Cam Henderson Center Huntington, WV 101–73 5–3 Jan 3, 1996 yes yes Nevada Lawlor Events Center Reno, NV 83–92 5–4 Jan 6, 1996 yes Hampton Cam Henderson Center Huntington, WV 123–95 6–4 Jan 13, 1996 yes Appalachian State Varsity Gymnasium Boone, NC 87–89 6–5 0–1 Jan 12, 1987 VMI Cam Henderson Center Huntington, WV 78–71 7–5 1–1 Jan 18, 1996 yes yes West Virginia Charleston Civic Center Charleston, WV Capital Classic 91–87 8–5 Jan 20, 1996 yes East Tennessee State Memorial Center Johnson City, TN 76–82 OT 8–6 1–2 Jan 22, 1996 Chattanooga Cam Henderson Center Huntington, WV 86–69 9–6 2–2 Jan 27, 1996 Davidson Cam Henderson Center Huntington, WV 57–106 9–7 2–3 Jan 29, 1996 yes Furman Greenville Memorial Auditorium Greenville, SC 95–71 10–7 3–3 Feb 3, 1996 The Citadel Cam Henderson Center Huntington, WV 98–54 11–7 4–3 Feb 5, 1996 yes Western Carolina Ramsey Center Cullowhee, NC 104–125 11–8 4–4 Feb 10, 1996 yes Georgia Southern Hanner Fieldhouse Statesboro, GA 71–52 12–8 5–4 Feb 12, 1996 yes Jacksonville State Cam Henderson Center Huntington, WV 111–90 13–8 Feb 14, 1996 Appalachian State Cam Henderson Center Huntington, WV 95–64 14–8 6–4 Feb 17, 1996 yes VMI Camron Hall Lexington, VA 94–103 14–9 6–5 Feb 19, 1996 East Tennessee State Cam Henderson Center Huntington, WV 111–84 15–9 7–5 Feb 24, 1996 yes Davidson John M.
