August 2023 1977 US Open USA Chris Evert AUS Wendy Turnbull 7–6, 6–2 96 12 1977 US Open (tennis) Two-time defending champion Chris Evert defeated Wendy Turnbull in the final, 7–6, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1977 US Open. It was her third US Open title and her seventh major singles title overall. For the second consecutive year, Evert did not lose a set during the tournament.
