The Flyers, led by fourth year head coach Archie Miller, played their home games at the University of Dayton Arena and were members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. They finished the season 27–9, 13–5 in A-10 play to finish in a tie for second place. They advanced to the championship game of the A-10 tournament where they lost to VCU. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament where they defeated Boise State in the First Four and Providence in the second round before losing in the third round to Oklahoma. When the Flyers were selected to play at home in the First Four, they became the first team since 1987 to play an NCAA Tournament game in their home arena. The NCAA made a rule in 1989 that no team could play a tournament game in their home arena. However, with UD Arena always hosting the First Four, Dayton is the only exception to the rule.http://buckeyextra.dispatch.com/content/stories/2015/03/18/dayton-wary-of-playing-first-four-home-game.html Dayton Wary of Playing First Four Home Game.HTML Previous season The 2013–14 Dayton Flyers finished the season with an overall record of 26–11, with a record of 10–6 in the Atlantic 10 regular season for a tie for a fifth-place finish. In the 2014 Atlantic 10 tournament, the Flyers were defeated by Saint Joseph's, 70–67 in the quarterfinals. They received an at-large bid to the 2014 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, where they upset Ohio State, Syracuse and Stanford in second and third rounds and the sweet sixteen before falling to Florida in the elite eight to end their Cinderella run. First, the NCAA declared incoming freshman Steve McElvene a "partial qualifier", rendering him ineligible for the entire 2014–15 season. Then, in December 2014, starting center Devon Scott and intended backup Jalen Robinson were dismissed from the team after allegedly being caught committing theft in a campus dormitory. Two other players were sidelined by injuries. Junior college transfer Detwon Rogers was lost for the season to a knee injury, and graduate transfer Ryan Bass quit basketball on medical advice due to post-concussion symptoms.http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/24959759/dayton-keeps-winning-even-with-a-uniquely-limited-and-short-roster Dayton keeps winning even with a uniquely limited and short roster Gary Parrish Eye on College Basketball CBSSports.com January 13, 2015 March 16, 2015 These departures and injuries left Dayton with arguably the most limited roster, in both depth and physical size, in Division I. The Flyers played the bulk of their season with only six players who started the season on scholarships. In January 2015, Bobby Wehrli, who had begun the season as a walk-on, was given a scholarship, but only for the spring of 2015.https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2015/02/27/dayton-coach-archie-miller-questions-and-answers/24111833/ Coach's corner: Dayton's Archie Miller Nicole Auerbach USA Today February 27, 2015 March 16, 2015 No one left on the active roster, whether on scholarship or not, was taller than 6'6" (1.98 m). CBS Sports journalist Gary Parrish had this to say about the Flyers' roster limitations (emphasis in original):"To put this into perspective, consider that Kentucky has seven scholarship players taller than 6-8, and that UK's starting backcourt (Andrew Harrison and Aaron Harrison) is just as tall as Dayton's starting frontcourt (Dyshawn Pierre and Kendall Pollard)." Despite these limitations, the Flyers remained in contention for the A10 title for most of the season, ultimately finishing second in the regular-season standings,http://www.atlantic10.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=799991&SPID=136228&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=31600&ATCLID=209933810 First-Year Davidson Claims Top Seed for Men's Basketball Championship Atlantic 10 Conference March 7, 2015 March 16, 2015 and advanced to the A10 tournament final, losing there to VCU.http://www.atlantic10.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=799991&SPID=136228&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=31600&ATCLID=209962006 VCU Claims First A-10 Men's Basketball Championship Associated Press Atlantic 10 Conference March 15, 2015 March 16, 2015 Roster 2014 Dayton Flyers y y Darrell Davis 1 G 6 4 155 FR Detroit, MI Douglass Academy Kyle Davis 3 G 6 0 165 SO Chicago, IL Morgan Park Steve McElvene 5 C 6 11 260 FR New Haven, IN New Haven yes Scoochie Smith y 11 G 6 2 170 SO New York, NY Putnam Science Academy Jalen Robinson 12 F/C 6 9 243 JR Columbus, OH Northland S Jeremiah Bonsu 14 G 5 11 150 SO Pickerington, OH Pickerington North W Nick Haldes 15 G 6 3 185 FR Chicago, IL Mattawan W Dyshawn Pierre 21 y F 6 6 210 JR Whitby, ON Anderson CVI Jordan Sibert y 24 G 6 4 187 SR y Cincinnati, OH Princeton Kendall Pollard 25 F 6 6 210 SO Chicago, IL Simeon Career Academy Detwon Rogers 30 F 6 6 220 JR Raleigh, NC New HanoverCollege of Southern Idaho y yes Devon Scott basketball 40 F/C 6 9 y 215 JR Columbus, OH Northland S Joey Gruden 44 G 6 2 163 SO Leesburg, VA Sycamore W Bobby Wehrli 50 F 6 6 198 JR Naperville, IL Benet Academy William Dupuy 51 G 5 8 157 SO Colleyville, TX Grapevine W Charles Cooke – G 6 5 192 JR Trenton, NJ Trenton Catholic AcademyJames Madison I yes Archie Miller (NC State) Kevin Kuwik (Notre Dame) Allen Griffin (Syracuse) Tom Ostrom (Minnesota) http://daytonflyers.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball Schedule http://daytonflyers.com/schedule.aspx?path=mbball 2021-22 Men's Basketball Schedule yes no yes |- !colspan=9 style="background:#C40023; color:white;"| Exhibition 11/08/2014 7:00 pm yes Southern Indiana UD Arena Dayton, OH 96–66 11,753 – |- !colspan=9 style="background:#C40023; color:white;"| Non-conference regular season 11/14/2014 7:00 pm yes Alabama A&M UD Arena Dayton, OH WHIO 76–52 12,732 1–0 11/20/2014 10:30 am yes yes Texas A&M Roberto Clemente Coliseum San Juan, PR Puerto Rico Tip-Off Quarterfinals ESPNU 55–53 6,723 2–0 11/21/2014 2:30 pm yes yes UConn 17 Roberto Clemente Coliseum San Juan, PR Puerto Rico Tip-Off Semifinals ESPN2 64–75 7,438 2–1 11/23/2014 4:30 pm yes yes Boston College Roberto Clemente Coliseum San Juan, PR Puerto Rico Tip-Off 3rd Place Game ESPN2 65–53 8,002 3–1 11/29/2014 2:00 pm yes UIC UD Arena Dayton, OH FSOH 75–41 11,835 4–1 12/03/2014 7:00 pm yes yes Miami (OH) Millett Hall Oxford, OH 66–62 2,365 5–1 12/06/2014 2:00 pm yes Eastern Michigan UD Arena Dayton, OH FSOH 73–64 12,243 6–1 12/09/2014 7:00 pm yes Bowling Green UD Arena Dayton, OH TWCSC 56–52 12,105 7–1 12/13/2014 2:00 pm yes yes Arkansas Bud Walton Arena Fayetteville, AR ESPN2 55–69 15,313 7–2 12/20/2014 7:00 pm yes Boston University UD Arena Dayton, OH TWCSC 78–62 12,326 8–2 12/23/2014 8:00 pm yes Georgia Tech UD Arena Dayton, OH CBSSN 75–61 12,424 9–2 12/30/2014 8:00 pm yes Ole Miss UD Arena Dayton, OH CBSSN 78–74 12,525 10–2 |- !colspan=9 style="background:#C40023; color:white;"| Atlantic 10 regular season 01/03/2015 1:00 pm no Duquesne UD Arena Dayton, OH NBCSN 81–55 12,319 11–2 (1–0) 01/08/2015 7:00 pm yes St. Bonaventure Reilly Center Olean, NY CBSSN 78–61 3,495 12–2 (2–0) 01/10/2015 7:00 pm yes Fordham Rose Hill Gymnasium Bronx, NY 76–58 2,872 13–2 (3–0) 01/14/2015 7:00 pm La Salle UD Arena Dayton, OH WHIO 61–50 12,300 14–2 (4–0) 01/17/2015 12:30 pm Saint Louis UD Arena Dayton, OH NBCSN 61–45 13,455 15–2 (5–0) 01/20/2015 7:30 pm yes 22 Davidson John M.
