English football club season December 2022 Arsenal 1933–34 Herbert Chapman (to January) Joe Shaw (from January) Samuel Hill-Wood Highbury First Division 1st FA Cup Sixth Round Cliff Bastin (13) Cliff Bastin (15) 1932–33 1934–35 The 1933–34 season was Arsenal's 15th consecutive season in the top division of English football. The Gunners won the league again, for the third time in four years, again winning it at Chelsea, this time with a 2–2 draw. They finished three points clear of runners-up Huddersfield Town, but manager Herbert Chapman, who had invented the WM formation along with a host of other tactics, and had first suggested the use of floodlights and numbered shirts, as well as initiating with European competition, died of pneumonia on 6 January 1934. On the day of his death, the crowd at Highbury for that day's match stood to commemorate him. Arsenal won the Charity Shield with a 3–0 triumph at Everton, but went out of the FA Cup against Aston Villa. Arsenal's biggest league win of the season was 6–0 against Middlesbrough; in all competitions it was 7–0 against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fourth round. Their top scorer was once again Cliff Bastin, who scored 13 league goals and 15 in all competitions.https://www.arsenal.com/history/herbert-chapman/arsenal-clinch-a-hat-trick-of-titles Arsenal clinch a hat-trick of titles Results Arsenal's score comes firsthttp://www.statto.com/football/teams/arsenal/1933-1934/results Arsenal results for the 1933-1934 season – Statto.com 23 May 2018 23 March 2016 https://web.archive.org/web/20160323024842/http://www.statto.com/football/teams/arsenal/1933-1934/results live Legend WinDrawLoss Football League First Division 1933–34 Football League DateOpponentVenueResultAttendanceScorers 26 August 1933 BirminghamH1–144,662 2 September 1933 Sheffield WednesdayA2–123,186 6 September 1933 West Bromwich AlbionH3–134,888 9 September 1933 Manchester CityH1–143,412 13 September 1933 West Bromwich AlbionA0–139,398 16 September 1933 Tottenham HotspurA1–156,612 23 September 1933 EvertonA1–353,792 30 September 1933 MiddlesbroughH6–028,293 7 October 1933 Blackburn RoversA2–231,636 14 October 1933 Newcastle UnitedH3–032,821 21 October 1933 Leicester CityH2–044,014 28 October 1933 Aston VillaA3–254,323 4 November 1933 PortsmouthH1–151,765 11 November 1933 Wolverhampton WanderersA1–037,210 18 November 1933 Stoke CityH3–032,972 25 November 1933 Huddersfield TownA1–029,407 2 December 1933 LiverpoolH2–138,362 9 December 1933 SunderlandA0–335,166 16 December 1933 ChelseaH2–143,897 23 December 1933 Sheffield UnitedA3–131,453 25 December 1933 Leeds UnitedA1–033,193 26 December 1933 Leeds UnitedH2–022,817 30 December 1933 BirminghamA0–034,771 6 January 1934 Sheffield WednesdayH1–145,156 20 January 1934 Manchester CityA1–260,401 31 January 1934 Tottenham HotspurH1–368,674 3 February 1934 EvertonH1–224,025 10 February 1934 MiddlesbroughA2–015,894 21 February 1934 Blackburn RoversH2–129,886 24 February 1934 Newcastle UnitedA1–040,065 8 March 1934 Leicester CityA1–423,976 10 March 1934 Aston VillaH3–241,169 24 March 1934 Wolverhampton WanderersH3–241,143 30 March 1934 Derby CountyH1–069,007 31 March 1934 Stoke CityA1–143,163 2 April 1934 Derby CountyA4–232,180 7 April 1934 Huddersfield TownH3–155,930 14 April 1934 LiverpoolA3–243,027 18 April 1934 PortsmouthA0–128,442 21 April 1934 SunderlandH2–137,783 28 April 1934 ChelseaA2–265,344 5 May 1934 Sheffield UnitedH2–025,265 Final League table First Division y ARS FA Cup 1933–34 FA Cup +RoundDateOpponentVenueResultAttendanceGoalscorersR313 January 1934 Luton TownA1–018,641R427 January 1934 Crystal PalaceH7–056,177R517 February 1934 Derby CountyH1–066,905R63 March 1934 Aston VillaH1–267,566 See also English football 1933–34 in English football List of Arsenal F.C. seasons References September 2010 Category:English football clubs 1933–34 season 1933-34 1933-34
