16S rRNA (guanine1516-N2)-methyltransferase 2.1.1.242
16S rRNA (guanine1516-N2)-methyltransferase (2.1.1.242, yhiQ (gene), rsmJ (gene), m2G1516 methyltransferase) is an enzyme with systematic name S-adenosyl-L-methionine:16S rRNA (guanine1516-N2)-methyltransferase. Basturea GN, Dague DR, Deutscher MP, Rudd KE YhiQ is RsmJ, the methyltransferase responsible for methylation of G1516 in 16S rRNA of E. coli Journal of Molecular Biology 415 1 16–21 January 2012 22079366 4140241 10.1016/j.jmb.2011.10.044 This enzyme catalyses the following chemical reaction
S-adenosyl-L-methionine + guanine1516 in 16S rRNA S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + N2-methylguanine1516 in 16S rRNA
The enzyme specifically methylates guanine1516 at N2 in 16S rRNA.
