Before the start of the season, two-time defending discipline winner Anna Fenninger of Austria suffered a season-ending (and career-threatening) injury,https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2015/10/21/anna-fenninger-crash-knee-injury-alpine-skiing-winter-olympics-lindsey-vonn-mikaela-shiffrin/ Nick Zaccardi Anna Fenninger out for season after crash NBC Sports 21 October 2015 14 February 2023 and 2013 discipline winner Tina Maze of Slovenia took the entire 2015–16 season off to determine if she wanted to continue with her career.https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2015/05/07/tina-maze-season-off-alpine-skiing-winter-olympics-retire-slovenia/ Nick Zaccardi Tina Maze to take season off, then decide on career NBC Sports 7 May 2015 14 February 2023 The crystal globe for the season then developed into a battle between 2015 runner-up Eva-Maria Brem, also of Austria, and two-time (2011–12) discipline champion Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany. After winning the next-to-last race of the season in Jasná, Brem opened a 52-point lead over Rebensburg, meaning that as long as she finished no worse than fourth in the finals in St. Moritz, Brem would win the championship no matter what Rebensburg did.https://www.si.com/uncategorized/2016/03/07/ap-ski-wcup-womens-gs Associated Press Brem holds commanding lead after 1st run of World Cup GS Sports Illustrated 7 March 2016 14 February 2023 And that was exactly what happened, as Rebensburg stormed through the last run of the giant slalom at finals for a commanding victory, but Brem, running last, barely managed to hold onto fourth by 0.03 seconds to win the season championship by two points (592 to 590).https://www.eurosport.com/alpine-skiing/brem-claims-giant-slalom-title-in-st-moritz-thriller_sto5326423/story.shtml2 Staff BREM CLAIMS GIANT SLALOM TITLE IN ST MORITZ THRILLER Eurosport 20 March 2016 14 February 2023 Standings #Skier24 Oct 2015 Sölden AUT27 Nov 2015 Aspen USA12 Dec 2015 Åre SWE20 Dec 2015 Courcheval FRA28 Dec 2015 Lienz AUT17 Jan 2016 Flachau AUT30 Jan 2016 Maribor SLO7 Mar 2016 Jasná SVK19 Mar 2016 St. Moritz  SUI Tot. 25pxAUT Eva-Maria Brem328080100505050100505922 GER Viktoria Rebensburg4036245060100100801005903 SUI  Lara Gut 50100208010012DNF250604724ITA Federica Brignone 1006060DNF24560DNF160404255 LIE Tina Weirather 6024143280156016203216NOR Nina Løseth134045802294514242927SLO Ana DrevDNF192236DNF2808024322838SWE Frida Hansdotter 2629402932DNQDNF22622204SWE Maria Pietilä-Holmner9123645DNF22240202020410FRA Taïna Barioz20DNF12671529101280 19911FRA Tessa Worley454550DNF22410113018812AUT Michaela Kirchgasser12DNF11526401436DNF13617913ITA Marta BassinoDNF11829DNF2151329452917814CAN Marie-Michèle Gagnon615DNF218DNQ26244045 17415ITA Manuela Mölgg225018DNQDNF2362222DNF117016ITA Nadia Fanchini 2422DNF1DNF2134032DNF11614717ITA Irene Curtoni 29DNF281529DNF21629012618USA Lindsey VonnDNSDNF110020DNF1DNF2DNF2DNS12019FRA Adeline Baud-Mugnier DNS261222DNF120DNF1426 11020AUT Stephanie BrunnerDNQ11511DNQ45DNF132010421USA Mikaela Shiffrin80DNF2DNS18DNF19822ITA Sofia Goggia 15151040DNQ16DNF1DNQ09623ITA Francesca Marsaglia DNSDNF24DNQ363612DNQ08824NOR Ragnhild MowinckelDNF2DNQDNF1622DNQ203608425ITA Elena Curtoni 1820DNQDNQ26DNQ18DNQ082Referenceshttps://medias3.fis-ski.com/pdf/2016/AL/5028/2016AL5028.pdf Audi FIS Ski World Cup Sölden Ladies GS (AUT) www.fis-ski.comhttps://medias3.fis-ski.com/pdf/2016/AL/5186/2016AL5186.pdf Audi FIS Ski World Cup Aspen Ladies GS (USA) www.fis-ski.comhttps://medias2.fis-ski.com/pdf/2016/AL/5183/2016AL5183.pdf Audi FIS Ski World Cup Åre Ladies GS (SWE) www.fis-ski.comhttps://medias4.fis-ski.com/pdf/2016/AL/5095/2016AL5095.pdf Audi FIS Ski World Cup Courchevel Ladies GS (FRA) www.fis-ski.comhttps://medias2.fis-ski.com/pdf/2016/AL/5029/2016AL5029.pdf Audi FIS Ski World Cup Lienz Ladies GS (AUT) www.fis-ski.comhttps://medias1.fis-ski.com/pdf/2016/AL/5100/2016AL5100.pdf Audi FIS Ski World Cup Flachau Ladies GS (AUT) www.fis-ski.comhttps://medias4.fis-ski.com/pdf/2016/AL/5148/2016AL5148.pdf Audi FIS Ski World Cup Maribor Ladies GS (SLO) www.fis-ski.comhttps://medias2.fis-ski.com/pdf/2016/AL/5179/2016AL5179.pdf Audi FIS Ski World Cup Jasná Ladies GS (SVK) www.fis-ski.comhttps://medias2.fis-ski.com/pdf/2016/AL/5178/2016AL5178.pdf Audi FIS Ski World Cup St. Moritz Ladies GS (SUI) www.fis-ski.com #ffcf40 Winner #c0c0c0 2nd place #cc9966 3rd place DNF1 = Did Not Finish run 1 DSQ1 = Disqualified run 1 DNQ = Did not qualify for run 2 DNF2 = Did Not Finish run 2 DSQ2 = Disqualified run 2 DNS = Did not start Updated at 21 March 2016, after all events.https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/alpine-skiing/cup-standings.html?sectorcode=AL&seasoncode=2016&cupcode=WC&disciplinecode=GS&gendercode=W&nationcode= Official FIS 2016 women's season standings fis-ski.com 14 February 2023 See also 2016 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's summary rankings 2016 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's overall 2016 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's downhill 2016 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's super-G 2016 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's slalom 2016 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's combined References External links Alpine skiing at FIS website Women's giant slalom Category:FIS Alpine Ski World Cup women's giant slalom discipline titles
