There was no contemporaneous system in 1923 for determining a national champion. However, Cornell was retroactively named as the national champion by Jeff Sagarin in 1978. Illinois, Michigan, and Yale were selected as the 1923 national champion or co-champion by other selectors.http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/football_records/2020/FBS.pdf 2020 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision Records The National Collegiate Athletic Association 112–114 July 2020 Indianapolis January 12, 2021 November 1, 2020 https://web.archive.org/web/20201101032438/http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/football_records/2020/FBS.pdf live Cornell quarterback George Pfann was a consensus first-team player on the 1923 All-America college football team.Football Award Winners National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) 2016 October 21, 2017 6 http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/football_records/2016/awards.pdf Tackle Frank Sundstrom also received first-team All-America honors from Walter Camp, Lawrence Perry, and Percy Haughton.Pfann and Sundstrom Are Given Places on Camp's All-American Ithaca Journal-News December 18, 1923 8 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98662641/pfann-and-sundstrom-are-given-places-on/ Newspapers.comLawrence Perry Sundstrom and Pfann On Perry's Selection: Yale Rated at Top Ithaca Journal-News December 15, 1923 8 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98662827/sundstrom-and-pfann-on-perrys/ Newspapers.comAll Americans: Percy Haughton's Team Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune 1923-12-11 Schedule September 29 w 1923 St. Bonaventure Brown Indians St. Bonaventure Schoellkopf Field Ithaca, NY 41–6 Cornell Trims Saints In Opening Contest Of Season, 41 to 6 Ithaca Journal-News October 1, 1923 8 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98659999/cornell-trims-saints-in-opening-contest/ Newspapers.com October 6 w 1923 Susquehanna Crusaders Susquehanna Schoellkopf Field Ithaca, NY 84–0 Cornell Overwhelms Susquehanna Eleven Scoring 12 Touchdowns Ithaca Journal-News October 8, 1923 8 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98660235/cornell-overwhelms-susquehanna-eleven/ Newspapers.com October 13 w 1923 Williams Ephs Williams Schoellkopf Field Ithaca, NY 28–6 Red and White Eleven Finds Real Difficulty In Downing Williams Ithaca Journal-News October 15, 1923 8 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98660471/red-and-white-eleven-finds-real/ Newspapers.com October 20 w Colgate Schoellkopf Field Ithaca, NY rivalry 34–7 15,000 Cornell Uses Passes To Defeat Colgate Before Record Crowd Ithaca Journal-News October 22, 1923 8 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98660718/cornell-uses-passes-to-defeat-colgate/ Newspapers.com November 3 w y Dartmouth Memorial Field Hanover, NH rivalry 32–7 15,000 Great Cornell Gridiron Team Rides Roughshod Over Dartmouth 32 to 7 Ithaca Journal-News November 5, 1923 8 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98661349/great-cornell-gridiron-team-rides/ Newspapers.comCornell Romps Over Dartmouth Team: Big Red Eleven Crushes Green By Score of 32-7 New York Daily News November 4, 1923 57 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98661529/cornell-romps-over-dartmouth-team/ Newspapers.com November 10 w y Columbia Polo Grounds New York, NY rivalry 35–0 30,000 Cornell Outclasses Columbia by 35 to 0: Blue and White Has No Chance Against Dobie New York Daily News Paul Gallico November 11, 1923 59 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98661939/cornell-outclasses-columbia-by-35-to-0/ Newspapers.com November 17 w 1923 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays Johns Hopkins Schoellkopf Field Ithaca, NY 52–0 Johns Hopkins Unable To Stop Dobie Eleven; Final Score Is 52-0 Ithaca Journal-News November 19, 1923 9 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98660960/johns-hopkins-unable-to-stop-dobie/ Newspapers.comBig Red Eleven Rolls Up Score: Hopkins Proves Unable To Stop Charge of Gil Dobie's Machine The Baltimore Sun November 18, 1923 21 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98663500/big-red-eleven-rolls-up-score-hopkins/ Newspapers.com November 29 w y Penn Franklin Field Philadelphia, PA rivalry 14–7 57,000 Fighting Quaker Eleven Loses To Cornell, 14 To 7 The Philadelphia Inquirer Perry Lewis November 30, 1923 28 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98662306/fighting-quaker-eleven-loses-to/ Newspapers.comCornell Defeats Penn in Desperate Gridiron Battle, 14-7: Fighting Quakers Check Varsity's Running Attack; Pfann Outstanding Star Ithaca Journal-News November 30, 1923 8 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/98663178/cornell-defeats-penn-in-desperate/ Newspapers.com Roster Frank O.
