Their head coach was Bobby Knight, who was in his third year. The team played its home games in Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana, and was a member of the Big Ten Conference. The Hoosiers finished the regular season with an overall record of 23–5 and a conference record of 12–2, tying Michigan for first place in the Big Ten Conference. Due to the NCAA Tournament rules at the time, which allowed only conference champions to participate, Indiana and Michigan faced off for a third game to determine which team would go to the NCAA Tournament. IU lost to Michigan, 75–67, and thus did not participate in the tournament. Instead, the 1974 Collegiate Commissioners Association Tournament invited second-place teams from eight conferences to participate in their tournament. This was IU's only appearance in the CCAT; however, they did win the championship game.https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/indiana/2013/10/29/indiana-basketball-mens-database/3308409/ Indiana Basketball Men's Database IndyStar November 16, 2015 Roster No.NamePositionHt.YearHometown20Bobby WilkersonG/F6–7So.Anderson, Indiana21Quinn BucknerG6–3So.Phoenix, Illinois22Trent SmockF6–5So.Richmond, Indiana23Craig MorrisG6–4So.DeGraff, Ohio24Steve AhlfeldG6–1Jr.Wabash, Indiana25Doug AllenF6–6Jr.Champaign, Illinois30John KamstraG6–1Jr.Frankfort, Indiana31John LaskowskiG/F6–5Jr.South Bend, Indiana33Tom AbernethyF6–7So.South Bend, Indiana34Steve GreenF6–7Jr.Sellersburg, Indiana42Scott MayF6–7So.Sandusky, Ohio43Don NoortC6–8So.Worth, Illinois45Jim CrewsG6–5So.Normal, Illinois54Kent BensonC6–11Fr.New Castle, Indiana Schedule and results no yes no no |- !colspan=8 style=Indiana Hoosiers| Regular season |- 12/1/1973 yes 3 The Citadel Assembly Hall Bloomington, IN 74–55 1–0 12/5/1973 yes 3 Kansas Assembly Hall Bloomington, IN 72–59 2–0 12/8/1973 yes yes 3 Kentucky 10 Freedom Hall Louisville, KY Indiana–Kentucky rivalry 77–68 3–0 12/11/1973 yes 3 Notre Dame 6 Assembly Hall Bloomington, IN 67–73 3–1 12/15/1973 yes yes 3 Ball State Irving Gymnasium Muncie, IN 87–62 4–1 12/22/1973 yes 7 South Carolina 15 Assembly Hall Bloomington, IN 84–71 5–1 12/26/1973 yes yes 7 BYU Memorial Coliseum Portland, OR Far West Classic Quarterfinals 96–52 6–1 12/28/1973 yes yes 7 Oregon State Memorial Coliseum Portland, OR Far West Classic Semifinals 48–61 6–2 12/29/1973 yes yes 7 Oregon Memorial Coliseum Portland, OR Far West Classic consolation round 56–47 7–2 1/5/1974 yes 8 Michigan 18 Crisler Arena Ann Arbor, MI 71–73 7–3 0–1 1/8/1974 yes yes 13 Miami Millett Hall Oxford, OH 71–58 8–3 1/12/1974 13 Wisconsin 13 Assembly Hall Bloomington, IN 52–51 9–3 1–1 1/14/1974 13 Northwestern Assembly Hall Bloomington, IN 72–67 10–3 2–1 1/19/1974 yes 12 Iowa Iowa Field House Iowa City, IA 55–51 11–3 3–1 1/26/1974 yes 11 Northwestern Welsh-Ryan Arena Evanston, IL 82–53 12–3 4–1 2/2/1974 12 Iowa Assembly Hall Bloomington, IN 85–50 13–3 5–1 2/9/1974 12 Illinois Assembly Hall Bloomington, IN Rivalry 107–67 14–3 6–1 2/11/1974 yes 12 Wisconsin Wisconsin Field House Madison, WI 81–63 15–3 7–1 2/16/1974 12 Michigan 15 Assembly Hall Bloomington, IN 93–81 16–3 8–1 2/18/1974 yes 12 Illinois Assembly Hall Champaign, IL Rivalry 101–83 17–3 9–1 2/23/1974 yes 10 Minnesota Williams Arena Minneapolis, MN 73–55 18–3 10–1 2/25/1974 10 Michigan State Assembly Hall Bloomington, IN 91–85 19–3 11–1 3/2/1974 yes 9 Ohio State St. John Arena Columbus, OH 79–85 19–4 11–2 3/9/1974 13 Purdue Assembly Hall Bloomington, IN Rivalry 80–79 20–4 12–2 3/11/1974 yes yes 13 Michigan 12 Assembly Hall Champaign, IL Big Ten Conference Tie-Breaker 67–75 20–5 |- !colspan=8 style=Indiana Hoosiers| CCAT 3/15/1974 yes yes 10 Tennessee St. Louis Arena St. Louis, MO First Round 73–71 21–5 3/17/1974 yes yes 10 Toledo St. Louis Arena St. Louis, MO Semifinals 73–72 OT 22–5 3/18/1974 yes yes 10 USC 15 St. Louis Arena St. Louis, MO Championship 85–60 23–5 AP Poll Rankings 1973–74 NCAA Division I men's basketball rankings References Category:Indiana Hoosiers men's basketball seasons Indiana Indiana Hoosiers Indiana Hoosiers
