Antrim instead entered that competition through the preliminary round of the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship. This marked the culmination of a process by which the winners of the Ulster championship had been held further and further back from the semi-final stage of the All-Ireland hurling championship. The Ulster championship continued as a stand-alone tournament. The other Ulster teams were not eligible for the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, and took part in lower tier competitions, such as the 2009 Christy Ring Cup, the second tier All-Ireland hurling championship. The entry for 2009, ten, matched the 2008 record, and for many marked a second foray back into senior championship hurling. All nine historic counties of Ulster took part, in addition to London. In order to avoid mismatches, and to allow Antrim to take part in the 2009 Leinster Senior Hurling Championship the draw was set so that the weaker counties were not faced with the prospect of facing regional powers Antrim at an early stage; instead all the other counties took part in a series of elimination matches for the right to meet Antrim in the final.2008-12-02 Tyrone and Derry wait for venues http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/northern_ireland/gaelic_games/7760247.stm 2025-03-03 BBC Sport en-GB 2008-12-02 Rebels open title defence with Déise clash https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/arid-20079000.html 2025-03-03 Irish Examiner en Teams _gold_lower _thinwhitesides _gold_lower ffffff FFD700 ffffff ffffff FFD700 Antrim _thinwhitesides ff4500 ff4500 ff4500 FFFFFF ff4500 Armagh _redborder _redhorizontal _redborder _band_red ffffff ffffff ffffff ff0000 ffffff Derry _redshoulders _blacksidesoutline _redshoulders _redsides _band_red 000000 ff0000 000000 000000 000000 Down 0000ff 0000ff 0000ff FFFFFF 0000ff CavanTitles480440Last title2008n/a20011997n/a _shouldersonwhite _thinwhitesides _shouldersonwhite 00CD00 009900 00CD00 FFFFFF 009900 Fermanagh _redshoulders _redshoulders _double red line FFFFFF FFFFFF FFFFFF FFFFFF FFFFFF Tyrone _whiteshoulders _thinbluesides _whiteshoulders 0000ff FFFFFF 0000ff 0000ff 0000ff Monaghan _DonegalGAA2011 _DonegalGAA2011 _DonegalGAA2011 008000 FFD700 008000 008000 008000 Donegal _white_stripes2 _adidasliberowithwhite _white_stripes2 28AE7B 28AE7B 28AE7B 28AE7B 28AE7B LondonTitles00230Last titlen/an/a19151932n/a Bracket y n 3 y First Round Second Round Quarterfinals Semifinal 2009 Ulster Senior Hurling Final 100 60 center 25px Armagh 1-22 (25) 25px Monaghan 1-8 (11) 25px Tyrone 0-6 (06) 25px Donegal 1-21 (24) 25px Fermanagh 0-13 (13) 25px Cavan 1-9 (12) 25px Armagh 3-24 (33) 25px Donegal 2-12 (18) 25px London 1-23 (26) 25px Fermanagh 0-7 (7) 25px Armagh 0-13 (13) 25px Down 5-20 (35) 25px London 3-12 (21) 25px Derry 4-10 (22) 25px Derry 1-18 (21) 25px Down 2-17 (23) 25px Antrim 3-20 (29) 25px Down 4-15 (27) Round 1 Date Venue Team Score Team Score May 9 Enniskillen Fermanagh 0-13 Cavan 1-9 May 9 Letterkenny Donegal 1-21 Tyrone 0-6 May 9 Keady Armagh 1-22 Monaghan 1-8 2009-05-09 Home sides victorious in Ulster SHC https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/arid-30410145.html 2025-03-03 Irish Examiner en Round 2 DateVenueTeamScoreTeamScoreMay 17 2009-05-17 Second half show sees Armagh through to semi finals https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/arid-30411192.html 2025-03-03 Irish Examiner enLetterkennyDonegal2-12Armagh3-24May 23 2009-05-23 London dominate at Ruislip https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/arid-30412029.html 2025-03-03 Irish Examiner enRuislipLondon1-23Fermanagh0-7 Quarter-finals DateVenueTeamScoreTeamScoreMay 30Casement ParkDerry4-10London3-12May 30Casement ParkDown5-20Armagh0-13 Semi-finals DateVenueTeamScoreTeamScoreJune 14Casement ParkDerry1-18Down2-17 Final DateVenueTeamScoreTeamScoreJune 28Casement ParkAntrim3-20Down4-15 2009-07-26 GAA results from Ireland https://www.irishcentral.com/sports/gaa-results-from-ireland-97265669-237361621 2025-03-03 IrishCentral.com en See also 2010 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 2010 Christy Ring Cup (Tier 2) 2010 Nicky Rackard Cup (Tier 3) 2010 Lory Meagher Cup (Tier 4) References Ulster Hurling Senior Category:Ulster Senior Hurling Championship
