2009 SE is a small asteroid and Mars trojan orbiting near the yes of Mars (60 degrees behind Mars on its orbit).Using Mars co-orbitals to estimate the importance of rotation-induced YORP break-up events in Earth co-orbital space Carlos de la Fuente Marcos de la Fuente Marcos Raúl March 2021 Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society 501 4 6007–6025 10.1093/mnras/stab062 free 2101.02563 2021MNRAS.501.6007D https://academic.oup.com/mnras/article-abstract/501/4/6007/6081058
Discovery, orbit and physical properties
2009 SE was first observed on 16 September 2009 by the Catalina Sky Survey (CSS). Its orbit is characterized by low eccentricity (0.065), moderate inclination (20.6°) and a semi-major axis of 1.52 AU.MPC data on 2009 SE Upon discovery, it was classified as Mars-crosser by the Minor Planet Center. Its orbit is well determined as it is currently (as of November 2025) based on 60 observations with a data-arc span of 5,498 days.https://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=2009SE JPL Small-Body Database Browser: (2009 SE) Jet Propulsion Laboratory 12 January 2021 2009 SE has an absolute magnitude of 20.13 which gives a characteristic diameter of 400 m.
Mars trojan and orbital evolution
Recent calculations indicate that it is a stable Mars trojan with a libration period of 1430 yr and an amplitude of 70°. The libration amplitude is not similar to that of 5261 Eureka and related objects.January 2021
