Summary Milan Associazione Calcio fell into pieces once Fabio Capello left his job to join Real Madrid.http://futbol.as.com/futbol/2005/12/29/mas_futbol/1135841220_850215.html Diario AS Revolucionó el Madrid en 1996 con seis fichajes 29 December 2005 17 February 2016 Spanish The new organisation with Óscar Tabárez as technical director completely miscued its signings, with neither Jesper Blomqvist, Edgar Davids, Christophe Dugarry or Michael Reiziger being successful. After a Supercoppa Italiana defeat against Fiorentina at home at the San Siro, a 2–3 loss at Piacenza for the league cost the Uruguayan his position. Tabarez was replaced by former championship winning coach Arrigo Sacchi, the change did not happen and days later due to a 2–1 defeat to Rosenborg at home in the Champions League the team was not qualified to Quarterfinals. The Rossoneri eventually finished 11th managed to save the reigning champions' contract in Serie A by just six points. The miserable season also prompted captain Franco Baresi to end his active career, with Milan retiring the #6 shirt in his honour.http://www.cinquantamila.it/storyTellerThread.php?threadId=BARESI%20Franco Biografia di Franco Baresi Il Corriere della Sera Italian Giorgio Dell'Arti 2 October 2013 12 May 2017 14 October 2017 https://web.archive.org/web/20171014133003/http://www.cinquantamila.it/storyTellerThread.php?threadId=BARESI%20Franco dead Squad 1 GK ITA Sebastiano Rossi 2 DF ITA Christian Panucci 3 DF ITA Paolo Maldini 4 MF ITA Demetrio Albertini 5 DF ITA Filippo Galli 6 DF ITA Franco Baresi captain 8 MF FRA Marcel Desailly 9 FW Liberia George Weah 10 MF FR Yugoslavia Dejan Savićević 11 DF ITA Alessandro Costacurta 13 DF ITA Francesco Coco 14 DF NED Michael Reiziger 15 MF ITA Massimo Ambrosini 16 MF ITA Tomas Locatelli 17 GK ITA Gabriele Aldegani 18 FW ITA Roberto Baggio 19 FW FRA Christophe Dugarry 20 MF HRV Zvonimir Boban 21 DF ITA Mauro Tassotti vice-captain 22 MF NED Edgar Davids 23 FW ITA Marco Simone 24 MF ITA Stefano Eranio 25 GK ITA Angelo Pagotto 27 FW ITA Luca Saudati 28 MF ITA Matteo Pelatti 29 DF ITA Pietro Vierchowod 31 MF ITA Vincenzo Maiolo 32 DF ITA Daniele Daino 34 MF SWE Jesper Blomqvist 35 DF FR Yugoslavia Miodrag Vukotić 36 DF ITA Matteo Placida 38 DF ITA Alberto Comazzi 39 GK ITA Massimo Prete 40 MF ITA Massimiliano Grego 42 FW ITA Massimo Maccarone Transfers In Pos. Weah said he exploded in frustration after putting up with racist tauntings from Costa during both of the teams' Champions League matches that autumn. Costa strenuously denied the accusations of racism and was not charged by UEFA as no witnesses could verify Weah's allegations, not even his Milan teammates. Weah later attempted to apologise to Costa but this was rebuffed by the Portuguese, who considered the charges of racist insults leveled against him to be defamatory and took Weah to court. The incident led to Costa undergoing facial surgery and he was subsequently sidelined for three weeks.https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/africa/1194989.stm Court postpones Weah trial BBC Sport 28 February 2001 28 February 2001 live https://web.archive.org/web/20020910103217/http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/africa/1194989.stm 10 September 2002 Porto Estádio das Antas 50 000 AUT Gerd Grabher L 6 4 December 1996 20:30 Milan ITA 1–2 Report NOR Rosenborg BK Dugarry 45, 45Baresi 57 29 Brattbakk31 Soltvedt 57 Iversen70 Heggem Milan San Siro 28 695 GRE Georgios Bikas Statistics Appearances and goals Serie A Coppa ChampionsLeague 1 Rossi GK ITA 26 -35 3 -1 6 -11 11 Costacurta DF ITA 30 0 3 0 5 0 29 Vierchowod DF ITA 16 1 2 0 0 0 6 Baresi DF ITA 26 0 1 0 2 0 3 Maldini DF ITA 26 1 3 0 6 0 24 Eranio MF ITA 18+3 2 3+1 0 1+3 0 4 Albertini MF ITA 27+2 8 2 0 5 1 8 Desailly MF Ghana 29 1 3 0 5 0 20 Boban MF CRO 26+2 1 2 0 5 1 9 Weah FW LBR 25+3 13 1+1 0 5 3 23 Simone FW ITA 18+5 4 2+1 2 4+2 4 25 Pagotto GK ITA 8+1 -10 2 -1 0 0 18 Baggio FW ITA 16+7 5 5 3 3+2 1 34 Blomqvist MF SWE 13+6 1 0 0 0 0 13 Coco DF ITA 11+3 0 3 0 0+1 0 19 Dugarry FW FRA 10+11 5 2 0 1+2 1 10 Savićević MF FR Yugoslavia 10+7 1 2 0 2 0 22 Davids MF NED 9+6 0 4 0 3+1 1 14 Reiziger DF NED 7+3 0 3+1 0 2+1 0 15 Ambrosini MF ITA 4+7 0 2+1 0 4 0 21 Tassotti DF ITA 2+8 0 1 0 0+1 0 38 Comazzi DF ITA 1 0 0 0 0 0 32 Daino DF ITA 0+5 0 0+1 0 0 0 28 Pelatti FW ITA 0+2 0 0 0 0 0 31 Maiolo MF ITA 0 0 1 0 0 0 16 De Francesco MF ITA 0 0 0+1 0 0 0 35 Vukotić DF FR Yugoslavia 0 0 0 0 0 0 36 Placida DF ITA 0 0 0 0 0 0 27 Corrent MF ITA 0 0 0 0 0 0 40 Grego MF ITA 0 0 0 0 0 0 42 Maccarone FW ITA 0 0 0 0 0 0 39 Prete GK ITA 0 0 0 0 0 0 17 Aldegani GK ITA 0 0 0 0 0 0 |- ! colspan=14 style=background:#dcdcdc; text-align:center| Players transferred out during the season 2 Panucci DF ITA 13 0 1 0 5+1 0 5 Galli DF ITA 1+1 0 0+1 0 1 0 16 Locatelli MF ITA 3+2 0 1+2 1 1+1 1 26 Saudati FW ITA 0+1 0 1+1 0 0 0 http://calcio-seriea.net/presenze/1996/1112/ August 2018 Clean sheets Rank RankNo. Squad NumberPos PositionNat NationalityNameSerie ASupercoppaCoppa ItaliaUEFA CLTotal11GKITASebastiano Rossi6010 7225GKITAAngelo Pagotto3020 5Totals903012 Disciplinary record No. Squad NumberPos Position Nat NationalityNameSerie ASupercoppaCoppa ItaliaUEFA CLTotal2222220MFCROZvonimir Boban611121128MFFRAMarcel Desailly81111111DFITAAlessandro Costacurta911024MFITADemetrio Albertini61126024DFITAStefano Eranio5111613DFITAPaolo Maldini51115119FWFRAChristophe Dugarry3112611GKITASebastiano Rossi4042DFITAChristian Panucci514029DFITAPietro Vierchowod40418FWITARoberto Baggio3310MFFR YugoslaviaDejan Savićević313123FWITAMarco Simone2215MFITAMassimo Ambrosini2234MFSWEJesper Blomqvist111113DFITAFrancesco Coco1138DFITAAlberto Comazzi1132DFITADaniele Daino1116FWITATomas Locatelli1114DFNEDMichael Reiziger1121DFITAMauro Tassotti11 Players in italics left the team during the season.
