1977 edition of the World Table Tennis Championships 1977 y 1975 1979 The 1977 World Table Tennis Championships were held in Birmingham at the then newly opened National Exhibition Centre, from March 26 to April 5, 1977. Organisation During these Championships, players and officials stayed at the Student Accommodation at the University of Birmingham in Edgbaston, from where coaches took all participants backwards and forwards between here and the NEC daily for the two weeks of the championships. Although run by the ETTA for the ITTF, headed by Mr Maurice Goldstein, Management, Tournament & Coaching Committee members from the BDTTA (Birmingham & District Table Tennis Association) played a major part with six months of preparatory work prior to this event, the first to be held at the NEC. It was also from the BDTTA that many gave freely of their time to help run this championship, through their expertise of running many other local annual table tennis tournaments, such at the 3 star Midlands Open and Birmingham Closed.ITTF Museum Past World Championships Results https://www.ittf.com/history/documents/past-world-championships-results/ December 26, 2025 Results Team Swaythling CupMen's Team CHNGuo YuehuaHuang LiangLi ZhenshiLiang GeliangWang Jun JPNTetsuo InoueMitsuru KonoMasahiro MaeharaNorio TakashimaTokio TasakaSWEStellan BengtssonAke GronlundKjell JohanssonRoger LagerfeldtUlf Thorsell Corbillon CupWomen's team CHNGe XinaiZhang DeyingZhang LiZhu Xiangyun KORChung Hyun-sookKim Soon-okLee AilesaLee Ki WonPRKKim Chang-AeLi Song SukPak Yong-OkPak Yung-Sun Individual Men's singlesJPN Mitsuru KohnoCHN Guo YuehuaCHN Liang GeliangCHN Huang LiangWomen's singlesPRK Pak Yung-SunCHN Zhang LiCHN Ge Xin'aiCHN Zhang DeyingMen's doublesCHN Li ZhenshiCHN Liang GeliangCHN Huang LiangCHN Lu YuanshengSWE Stellan BengtssonSWE Kjell JohanssonYUG Antun StipančićYUG Dragutin ŠurbekWomen's doublesPRK Pak Yong-okCHN Yang YingCHN Zhu XiangyunCHN Wei LijieCHN Zhang LiCHN Ge Xin'aiKOR Lee Ki WonKOR Kim Soon-okMixed doublesFRA Jacques SecrétinFRA Claude BergeretJPN Tokio TasakaJPN Sachiko YokotaCHN Li ZhenshiCHN Yan GuiliKOR Lee Sang-kukKOR Lee Ki Won References External links ITTF Museum Category:World Table Tennis Championships World Table Tennis Championships World Table Tennis Championships Category:Table tennis competitions in the United Kingdom Category:International sports competitions in Birmingham, West Midlands World Table Tennis Championships, 1977 World Table Tennis Championships World Table Tennis Championships Category:Sport at the University of Birmingham
