Season summary The 1995–96 season was a highly inconsistent one for the club. In October 1995, they were second and hopeful of automatic promotion, but then came a drastic loss of form which, in a fourteen match run, saw them lose 13 games, draw one and win none. They looked set to be relegated to Division Two, but a marked improvement in form during the final four months of the season saw them climb to mid table. Later during the season, the club signed Richard Sneekes from Bolton Wanderers. He would prove an instant hit, scoring ten league goals in less than half a season, and a cult figure with the fans. Then & Now; Richard Sneekes Albion 1996-2001 http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Then+%26+Now%3B+Richard+Sneekes+Albion+1996-2001.-a0151899345 Birmingham Mail 26 September 2006 21 September 2011 Final league table 1995–96 Football League#First Division First Division y WBA Results West Bromwich Albion's score comes first Legend WinDrawLoss Football League First Division DateOpponentVenueResultAttendanceScorers 12 August 1995 Charlton AthleticH1–018,593Gilbert 20 August 1995 Wolverhampton WanderersA1–126,329Taylor 26 August 1995 Ipswich TownH0–014,470 30 August 1995 Southend UnitedA1–24,621Raven 2 September 1995 Sheffield UnitedH3–114,377Burgess, Hamilton, Hunt 9 September 1995 Oldham AthleticA2–18,397Taylor, Gilbert 12 September 1995 Tranmere RoversA2–27,196Ashcroft (pen), Hunt 17 September 1995 Birmingham CityH1–018,854Hunt 24 September 1995 Stoke CityA1–29,612Hunt 30 September 1995 Huddersfield TownH1–215,945Taylor 7 October 1995 ReadingH2–012,907Gilbert, Taylor 14 October 1995 Luton TownA2–18,042Ashcroft, Hunt 21 October 1995 PortsmouthH2–116,257Ashcroft, Hunt 28 October 1995 MillwallA1–29,717Hunt 5 November 1995 Leicester CityH2–316,071Raven, Hamilton 11 November 1995 Derby CountyA0–313,765 18 November 1995 Grimsby TownA0–18,155 21 November 1995 Norwich CityH1–413,680Hunt 25 November 1995 SunderlandH0–117,980 2 December 1995 ReadingA1–37,910Ashcroft 9 December 1995 Stoke CityH0–116,872 16 December 1995 Huddersfield TownA1–412,664Hamilton 23 December 1995 Crystal PalaceH2–313,103Darby, Hunt 26 December 1995 Port ValeA1–310,807Gilbert 13 January 1996 Wolverhampton WanderersH0–021,658 20 January 1996 Charlton AthleticA1–411,864Hunt 3 February 1996 Ipswich TownA1–210,798Taylor 10 February 1996 Southend UnitedH3–112,906Hunt, Taylor (2) 17 February 1996 Tranmere RoversH1–115,014Hunt 20 February 1996 Sheffield UnitedA2–110,944Burgess, Hunt 27 February 1996 Oldham AthleticH1–011,956Taylor 2 March 1996 Port ValeH1–113,707Taylor 9 March 1996 Crystal PalaceA0–118,336 12 March 1996 WatfordH4–411,836Taylor (3), Sneekes 16 March 1996 BarnsleyH2–112,701Raven, Sneekes 20 March 1996 Birmingham CityA1–119,147Sneekes 23 March 1996 WatfordA1–110,334Taylor 30 March 1996 PortsmouthA2–08,126Sneekes (2) 2 April 1996 Luton TownH0–215,131 6 April 1996 MillwallH1–013,793Sneekes 9 April 1996 Leicester CityA2–117,889Sneekes, Raven 13 April 1996 Grimsby TownH3–116,116Taylor (2), Sneekes 20 April 1996 Norwich CityA2–214,667Sneekes, Taylor 27 April 1996 SunderlandA0–022,027 30 April 1996 BarnsleyA1–16,981Gilbert 5 May 1996 Derby CountyH3–223,858Sneekes, Hunt, Taylor FA Cup 1995-96 FA Cup +RoundDateOpponentVenueResultAttendanceGoalscorersR36 January 1996 Crewe AlexandraA3–45,750Coldicott, Hunt, Raven League Cup 1995-96 Football League Cup +RoundDateOpponentVenueResultAttendanceGoalscorersR1 First Leg 15 August 1995 Northampton TownH1–16,489TaylorR1 Second Leg 22 August 1995 Northampton TownA4–27,083Taylor (2), Hunt, DonovanR2 First Leg 20 September 1995 ReadingA1–16,948BurgessR2 Second Leg 3 October 1995 ReadingH2–48,163Donovan, Burgess First-team squad Squad at end of season ENG GK Gary GermaineGermaine was born in Birmingham, England, but also qualified to represent Scotland internationally and would represent them at U-21 level.
